Some Popular Wood Working Projects

If you are a hobbyist who would like to start making object from wood, you may be wondering which wood working projects to try. Of course, the kind of wood working projects you select will depend on your level of ability, but there are so many things that can be made from wood at home, that you never have to be stuck for ideas, whatever level of skill you are presently at.

Popular home wood working projects include clothes hangers, bird tables, wine racks, garden furniture and interior furniture like shelving, cupboards and display cabinets. Even teenagers can start to learn on simple projects building up their competence steadily. If you go for popular wood working projects, you will have no problem selling the items you make either.

Wooden objects for home and garden use are traditional and hard-wearing. People value them more highly than an item that has been stamped out by a machine or welded together on a production line. This applies even to something as straightforward as a swing seat. Everyone would choose the wooden one, even if it were a little more costly.

This is especially true of interior furniture like display cabinets. Whoever heard of someone displaying a fine bone china tea set in a metal display cabinet? The very thought of it is ridiculous, isn’t it? So, if you want to decorate your home and garden well, you pick items made of wood and so does everyone else. Therefore, if you want to sell the goods you make, choose popular wood working projects.

Hardwood is the best wood to use, but it is the most expensive and sources of many hardwoods are protected. This makes them scarce. Teak is one such hardwood that is scarce and very expensive, but teak furniture is one of the most highly valued by aficionados.

Whether you are just starting out or fairly experienced has an effect on the type of popular wood working projects you should undertake. Here are some popular wood working projects placed approximately in order of the competence level need to accomplish them.

Garden swing seats always look good hanging from a tree in the garden. They are not hard to make look nice and they sell easily. Bird tables go down well too. There are many different designs of bird table to pick from: with a little house or without, with climbing perches or not, with a hole for a bathing bowl or not, etc, etc..

Dog kennels are superb popular wood working projects. Every dog owner wants a kennel for their dog to lie in to take refuge from the sun, wind and rain, while it is outside. Dogs come in all different sizes, so you could make your kennels to order and they need not be of hardwood. Garden benches are not too tricky, but you can increase the style by making them more elaborate and making them from soft or hardwood.

More competence is usually needed to work on popular wood working projects for indoors, but you could begin with made-to-measure clothes hangers or mug trees. Curtain rods can be as ornate as you like too, but a set of matching curtain rods for a room of house would sell well. Wine racks are popular too.

Going up the scale of ability levels, you could construct stools for the breakfast bar and even a kitchen table. Going further up the ladder of popular wood working projects, there would be a dining room table with six or eight matching chairs. The pinnacle of indoor furniture is the intricate, glazed display cabinet. That has to be magnificent, because people use them to show off their most highly prized possessions and they are being looked at all the time.

If you are interested in popular wood working projects like these, it is a good idea to acquire a set of woodworking plans for your project from a reputable source.

How Do You Get A Job In Music Production?

You would imagine that once you have your degree in Music Production you would be well on your way, would you not? But it does not normally work like that. It is false that getting a degree makes acquiring a job easier, because there are more people going for jobs with degrees than ever before and we are in an period when every business is looking for savings. It is true though that you will not ge a decent career with prospects without a degree any more.

So, you have your degree in music production and companies are not falling over themselves to hire you, so what do you do now? Well, one of the things that you should do is put your creative talent to work to unearth ways to get a job in the music industry. Before we get onto the topic of looking for a career, there are a few items that you have to know about music firms.

Most young people dream of acquiring into the music industry and rubbing shoulders with stars even if they do not have any talent. Because of this the music industry as a whole hardly ever has to advertise for vacant jobs although they might be required to by law in some countries.

They will just pay lip service to this law because it is daft, a sop and unenforcable. They will promote from within, use family and hire head-hunters, just like most companies do.

This means that it is at least as much who you know as what you know and this means networking. You will have to learn how to network to get yourself at least an interview. Attempt to get in even if it means on the lowest rung of the ladder, as an intern.

The vast majority of companies that take interns fill vacant positions with the best and most eager interns. The drawback is that interns get paid very little if at all. But if government can get away with it so will industry.

The first step to take after acquiring your degree is to study up on the career you would like and the firm you would like it with. You know how to do that. Learn as much about the career and the firm as you can. Then draw up a list of all the people you know who might be able to help you or vouch for you.

Teachers, lecturers, bands you roadied for, concerts you helped out on – anything – and get in touch with them. Ask if they know of anything going and get their permission to use their name in an interview or career application.

Send out resumes to the precise person by name who has the authority to hire or recommend you. This involves more study. This is a long shot because music production companies are inundated with resumes, but follow yours up with a second letter and enclose a stamped self-addressed envelope. Send a third as well, why not? Then begin following it up by email and phone.

Stay calm, be pleasant, but say that you would like a reply and if you have been rejected with reasons why so that you can correct your short-comings. Try to learn from set-backs and one day it will work out for you.

How To Find Antique Car Shows

Are you interested in gorgeous old cars? Lots of individuals are and there are lots of antique car exhibitions in America and Europe to prove it. Antique car shows are a good way of viewing these old cars and standing up close to them. They are a fully working part of automotive history – many of them are a hundred years old and still working fine.

So, if you want to go to a show of ancient cars, how do you go about finding one? It depends on what you would like really, because there are in essence two kinds of car show.

There is the permanent kind, a type of museum, usually a private collection which is open to the public like the one owned by the Marquis of Beaulieu, the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, the New Forest in the UK.

Then there are the rallies of antique car enthusiasts and owners like the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run. There is a comparable event organized by Louis-Vuitton which takes place at various European locations, but I last saw it at Portofino in northern Italy.

The museums tend to be open all the year round, but the rallies usually take place in the summer, because lots of the old cars were open topped and uncomfortable to drive in the rain and the cold.

The obvious place to begin looking for a collection or rally of antique cars in your area is on the Internet, but there are also plenty of magazines on the topic full of beautiful glossy pictures of old, unusual cars. These magazines will also carry notification of up and coming events.

If you favour the personal approach, look up an antique, veteran or classic car club in your area and go along to their next meeting. You are sure to meet someone there who can advise you about the best up and coming rallies of old cars and the best collections or museums in and near your region.

Actually, this is probably your best option if you live in a city. You cannot beat the face to face approach for getting the best knowledge and seeing the enthusiasm in the eyes of the vintage car driver. It is infectious to talk with anyone who is passionate concerning their hobby.

If you still decide to look on the Internet, one of the more personal methods of obtaining knowledge on vintage car events, is to sign up for some newsletters.

Simply do a general search on, say, ‘vintage car rallies’ or ‘vintage car museums’, visit a couple of sites and sign up for the newsletters of the sites that take your fancy.

In this way, you are certain to get advanced notification of all the top vintage car shows and you might even be given a coupon to save you money on the entrance fee too.

First Aid For Camping

Injuries occur even on the most well planned camping trips. You have to not only plan to avoid accidents, but you also have to plan on how to deal with them if and when they take place while camping. The important thing is to remember to remain calm. The worse thing you can do is get flustered.

You have to keep a clear head and just let your first aid training kick in. If you don’t have any first aid training then you should attend some classes before going camping. If you are not composed then you may not administer the correct treatment and this could just make it worse.

Three frequent ailments that befall campers are dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. To most individuals these all seem like the same ailments, and they are, but they each have to be treated in a different way. Confusing which treatment goes with which will not only slow down healing, but it could also cause damage. The foremost common problem when camping is dehydration. The best thing to do is just to keep yourself well hydrated with water.

You may drink nothing but lemonade and tea at home, but if you do that when camping you will quickly find yourself in a hospital room for dehydration. There are a few signs of dehydration besides the obvious thirst. Excessive sweating, rapid breathing, clammy skin, and loss of skin elasticity are all signs of dehydration. Children may also have hollow eyes when dehydrated.

If someone becomes dehydrated when you’re camping then you want to have them rest in the shade and drink plenty of cold water. You’ll also want them to remove any unnecessary clothing. Heat exhaustion is another widespread problem while camping. This is caused by not only too much heat, but can also be caused by too much humidity.

A person with heat exhaustion will have pale, clammy skin, rapid breathing, excessive sweating, thirst and nausea, headache, and exhaustion. Again you’ll want the individual to take a break from camping and completely rest with their feet elevated. Cool water and a shady place are a necessity.

You’ll even want to sponge the person with water. The third common camping complaint is heat stroke. Heat stroke is caused by your body not regulating body temperature correctly, causing your body to overheat. Symptoms are flushed, dry skin, a lack of sweat, rapid and weak pulse, irrational behavior, staggering, headache, and vomiting.

If not diagnosed early and treated this can also lead to a collapse, a seizure, a coma, and even death. If someone gets heat exhaustion while camping you need to get help immediately and get an ambulance. Have them rest in the shade with their head raised.

Use ice or cold water to cool them down and if they are aware make them drink. These three ailments are common while camping and should be watched for and treated right away.

First aid knowledge is essential when camping. Remember that water always helps, so have a lot of it with you at all times. If anything does happen on your camping expedition stay calm and remember what you’ve learned.

If he’s red raise his head, if he’s pale raise his tail, is a good rhyme to help you remember what to do if something happens while you’re camping. Stay cool and hydrated and you should be able to avoid problems like these on your camping trip.

Detailing The Inside Of A Vehicle

The things needed to detail the interior of a vehicle are: a vacuum ( a shop vac would be best), a bucket of hot soapy water and one of fresh water, soft rags, window cleaner, a small paint brush, and a stiff bristle brush.

The first thing that ought to be done is removing any things that are not needed in the vehicle, this includes floor mats. This prevents items from getting in your fashion. Next you ought to vacuum everything you can. This includes of the floor, under the seat, rear window, speakers, seats, and all vents. This will save a great deal of cleaning time later.

The next step would be to start cleaning the dash with a soft soapy rag, using the small paintbrush to get into the vents and any other small region that is difficult to get to. Wipe these areas with the clean water. Be certain to get into the small grooves present on most steering wheels.

Next would come the doors. The same process can be used as on the dash. Clean in your own way for the remainder of the vehicle using these steps being sure to do the ceiling whilst cleaning the rest of the vehicle. Another area that is normally forgotten is the glove box. It is up to each person as to whether they clean it or not.

At this time washing all windows would be the next step. Use a soft rag and a good window cleaner. There are a lot of different brands to choose from, such as Windex and Safelite Auto Glass.

If the upholstery of your vehicle requires to be washed it can be done with the soapy water and a bristle brush. Dip the brush in the soapy water and start scrubbing the seat and back. Do not soak the fabric. Using the brush, scrub the seat, back, and sides.

The small paint brush comes in handy to get into difficult to reach parts. If you have a shop vac then proceed to vacuum the area washed. Repeat process if the seat is still dirty. After you are ready, vacuum the chairs the best you can to suck up the excess dampness.

Armour All, and other brands has a range of special cleaning products that you can purchase if you prefer to. Just be certain to match the cleaner to the sort of cloth you have in your vehicle.

Following the directions on those products is crucial. Next is scrubbing the floor. Using the bristle brush and soapy water, scrub the floors down and vacuum. This may have to be repeated a few times depending on how bad the floor is.

Whilst working on the driver’s side be certain to wash all pedals. If there are floor shifters they have to be wiped at this time. A decent vacuuming will pick up what has been brought to the surface. The floor mats can be scrubbed and placed back in the vehicle if the carpet is not too wet.

Stress Headaches And How To Treat Them

We all get headaches from time to time, but do you know why you get those headaches? If you just have a headache from time to time, once every couple of of weeks or so, it is not much of a problem, but if you dread your next headache, then you almost certainly do have a problem.

Tension headaches are the most common and tension can be related to stress, but there are also purely stress-related headaches. This sort of headache can also be driven away by a tablet or two from the medicine cabinet, but it is better to get rid of the reason for the headache. Attack the reason not the symptom. The remainder of this piece is about what to do with the various kinds of stress headaches.

Basically, a stress headache happens once the obstacles that are presented to you overwhelm your ability to cope with them. Some people get on well with stress others handle stress less well. Some individuals even thrive on it and others have taught themselves how to de-stress rapidly.

When a person comes across stressful situations, a little bit of our mental resistance against stress is worn away. This is fine and is standard practice, but then as other stresses occur there is less and less defence left to carry on. Attempting to cope when you are beginning to feel weaker and weaker will frequently bring on a stress headache.

A different reason why a stress headache is the most common kind of headache, is because other forms of headache can bring on a stress headache too. The good news is that almost all forms of headaches can be prevented or cured and a stress headache falls into this category.

There are, naturally pharmaceutical medications to cure headaches and there are natural, home remedies as well but there are also non-medicinal methods of treating a stress headache. These other methods include: cognitive therapy, behavioural therapy and physical therapy.

These methods can be studied from books, night school groups, the local library, the Net or by arrangement with your clinic or medical doctor. It is well-worth learning how to employ these techniques because taking drugs or treatments can lead to headaches as well.

Cognitive Therapy: seeks to ‘redirect’ stress headaches. In this course of action, the patient is taught to recognize what begins the stress symptoms and what the onset of a stress headache feels like. Then they are taught how to modify their response to these conditions.

Behavioural Therapy: is a way of changing your life style to prevent the incidence of a stress headache. For example, numerous people reach for comfort foodstuffs or alcohol once they become stressed, but it may be better for you to do something else, |when you feel a stress headache coming on.

Physical Therapy: tries using bio-feedback responses, so that when a stress headache starts, the sufferer strives using relaxation techniques (perhaps yoga) in order to reduce their stress and possibly prevent the stress headache from occurring. Meditation, deep breathing and prayer are some of the other techniques that can be tried.

How To Earn Money Buying And Selling Used Cars Part 3

In the first section of this mini series on how to make money buying and selling used cars, we looked at what personal skills someone wanting to be profitable in this business would have to have. In the second part we looked at the best sites to locate such a business and in this section, we will look into acquiring our stock – our cars or trucks.

So, where can you get second-hand cars or trucks from? You will almost certainly get people coming in off the street trying to sell you their cars or trucks. That is frequently a good source of supply, if you carry out the necessary checks to make sure that they are not stolen, but this source will dry up from time to time – particularly in the summer.

Other places to obtain stock are private auction houses, bankruptcies, bereavements and government auctions, where cars or trucks are often quite heavily discounted.

At private auctions, anyone can bid for the lots that go under the hammer. Sometimes there is a minimum selling price, sometimes there is not, but the seller must pay to put his car in the auction anyway, which means that he has a vested interest in selling it to recoup this cost. If a car does not reach the minimum bid, try talking to the seller privately, you could pick up a genuine bargain.

If you are oblivious of local car auctions where you live, try looking in the local paper under “Up And Coming Events” or in the Yellow Pages under “Actions” or “Car Auctions” or go on line and make the same query including your locality.

Government auctions are fantastic sources to buy stock of any kind, including vehicles and machinery. These goods are usually either government surplus (new and used) or assets seized from the public. In The USA, it is best to register your interest in the auction catalogues of the two main governments auctioneers: the Department of Defense and the General Services Administration (GSA). Other countries have similar departments, which your local authorities can help you to get in touch with.

These government agencies auction off tens of thousands of vehicles or every conceivable description every year in the USA. Cars and other vehicles form a large slice of these auctions in monetary value – you would honestly find it hard to comprehend how many cars or trucks the government owns in the name of the people, from limos to lawnmowers. They all have to be replaced on a regular basis according to a schedule and the old ones are sold off.

The incredible fact that works so well in the business person’s favour, is that the government is more interested in clearing out their sheds of all this stuff to make room for more than it is in spinning a profit on it. All you have to do is register with the Department of Defense and the GSA and they will send you their auction catalogues automatically. This way you will have time to examine the goods before you bid.

The next part in this mini series will discuss how you can work out the value of the items that are being auctioned off.

The Importance Of First Aid For The Workplace

If you own a firm, you are almost certainly required by law to supply some form of First Aid to your employees. There may well be laws governing what degree of service you have to supply, but if there are not, this article will endeavour to help you work out a sensible approach to the question. However, whichever way you look at it, the provision of First Aid in the workshop is very important.

There are in essence four reasons involved in the equation: the administerer of the First Aid, the First Aid kit, the First Aid room and the First Aid apparatus. The causes influencing the above components are: the type of industry you are in, the number of workers, the sort of shifts and your distance from the closest hospital.

The shift factor is vital because you will have to supply a health care worker (at least one) for each shift. If there are employees from many subcontractors on site (such as on a building site) the main contractor ought to supply health care for all the workers on site and make a charge to the bosses of the subcontractors’ companies.

Any agreements between workers and employers and main and sub-contractors should be put in on paper and signed by all parties involved. These agreements should then by photocopied and distributed to everyone concerned.

The employer ought to provide a notice in various prominent locations throughout the site or factory giving information about where the closest trained First Aider is and his or her name. The trained individual should be healthy, responsible, normally at work and be able to leave his or her workstation immediately when required to help.

The First Aiders should receive training from a recognized body and a certificate of competence should be given. If possible, the training should be given in your own workshop so that the trainers can observe any local hardships.

The First Aider ought to get trained in writing records. For example, although the First aider’s obligation ceases when the paramedics arrive, the supplier of First Aid should make and be able to furnish a record of any therapy given before their arrival.

The First Aid box should be maintained regularly. Items that have passed their sell-by-date should be disposed of and replaced and someone has to be given the obligation for doing this and signing a register to say that the inspection has taken place. There ought to be a First Aid box within a few minutes walk of perilous locations like machinery

The kits should contain all standard things such as antiseptic, plasters, bandages, safety pins, scissors, iodine et cetera, but they should also contain remedies specific to your industry, if there are any. It is also a good idea to put a First Aid data sheet in the box simply in case it is not the trained First Aider who has to supply the help.

The Importance of Knowing and Using First Aid

There is an importance of knowing how to give first aid or CPR. Taking a class on first aid can be done at a local community center or hospital. When taking such a class, these are the items an individual will most likely learn. As an individual learns what to do in their first aid class, they will be taught the A-B-C?s of first aid.

Now, this does not mean A-B-C as in bullet points, no, this is a mnemonic saying. So, whilst administering first aid to anybody, they ought to be getting help from a trained person for clearing their Airway, Breathing properly or Circulation in their heart.

An airway which is blocked has to be attended to immediately. Being able to clear anyone?s airway is important for supporting their life. If the airway is not open, it will most likely affect that person?s mind and body functions. In turn, this will cause a sudden deterioration of that person?s life.

As you can see, having an open airway permits a person to react to you and sustain their life. The open airway also keeps oxygen flowing to the brain. Without oxygen to our brain, there may be permanent damage as well. Just as vital as opening a person?s airway is, so too is getting them to breathe again.

These two facets, airway and breathing, might seem the same to you, but they have two different functions for a first aid responder to achieve. When it comes to breathing, that person will require some help. When the airway is open, they may not be breathing in the right manner.

Having a person breathe, on their own, is equally as vital as having an open airway. Both of these functions require the passage of oxygen to the brain and this is why the objective of a first aid responder is to help that person breathing again without assistance.

Just as important as opening the airway and breathing is, so also is allowing circulation to the heart. The human heart is an astounding muscle but when a person?s heart is in trouble, they will need urgent care in order to make certain that they stay alive.

If the human heart is not getting oxygen and beating as intended, there may be a loss of life. Every step given to an injured person, from a first aid responder, is vital. Every action received, in the order given, is also vital.

All three A-B-C measures above, having been learned in a CPR class, and then used as trained by a first aid responder is necessary to the survival of the injured person. In fact, seeing if a person has a pulse and is breathing is the first thing to be done when helping a person in trouble.

As recently as 2010, the American Heart Association requested that the A-B-C?s be converted to C-A-B. Now, when performing first aid on an adult, it is recommended to do chest compressions first, and then see if the airway is open and if a person can breathe on their own. The original A-B-C?s can still be utilized on infants and children.

Tips For Setting Up A Car Club

Are you thinking of organizing a car club? Or maybe reorganizing one? Car clubs are a great method for enthusiasts of a certain marque or sort of car to share their information.

Most car clubs are based on ownership of a marque of car or even ownership of a particular model, but it could also be a club for owners of cars of a particular age.

Therefore, the first thing to do while setting up or reorganizing a car club is to ascertain who the club is for. The more strict you make the club, the less members you are likely to get, which could be a difficulty unless you live in a large city.

It is a great deal of effort to establish a good set of rules and a mission statement, so it is best if you can find some help, possibly by getting a couple of others to form a small committee.

Maybe the easiest method of finding a few more enthusiasts would be to either put an advert in the paper or go down to the showroom of the marque you are interested in and talk to the sales people.

The committee can decide on how what the club will focus on: for instance sports cars, Mercedes, pre-1945 or whatever. Then decide on how often the club will get together: monthly or quarterly or whatever and who is eligible to join: owners of these cars only or enthusiastic non-owners as well.

Other items to decide would be whether there is a joining fee and / or annual membership fee; whether there will be a magazine or newsletter or / and a website. What sort of activities and dos will the club hold? Races? Rallies? An annual dinner-dance?

A bring and buy sale of spare parts and accessories is usually a well-liked event. Members can bring along superfluous parts and accessories related to the car that the club is focused on. Where will you hold your meetings? In a church hall or in a spare room in a pub?

A website is a useful method of communicating with club members, but a blog is even better for allowing members to interact with every other. Best of all would be a website which just one person is permitted to update and a blog on the same domain name.

Every club member can be given a user name and password to the blog and then members can sign in and chat to each other in real time. This is not difficult to set up.

All you have to do is lease hosting space (less than $100 per annum) and buy a domain name (less than $10). WordPress, a free blogging program, is usually available with the hosting.

Then you will have to either pay a designer to make a web site for you or get someone to do it for you. Lots of people under the age of 30 can design and set up a straightforward but effective website.

The website will become an important part of your recruitment drive and by and large reduce your marketing costs as well.

Should You Buy A Car At A Car Show?

If you go to a car show, expect to become impressed. After all, that is the whole purpose of putting on the show in the first place. Having said that, you will also see excellent, if not the best, examples of four-wheeled vehicles. However, the question is: should you buy a car at a car show?

Well, that is not an easy question to answer, because it depends on you and the circumstances. It is never a good idea to buy on a whim, but if you see something that you have really been searching for for some time, then you may have to purchase it there and then or wait a long time to get another chance.

What do they recommend? Never go shopping whilst you are hungry? The same saying could be applied to this situation and the outlay will definitely be hundreds if not thousands of times more than a cart full of shopping.

Basically, the criterion is: do you really know what the car is worth? The owner of the car will know what the car is worth and he or she will also know that you are seeing the car in the best light. The owner will also have paid to enter the exhibition, the price of which will also be added to the cost of the car.

Therefore, if you are buying something extraordinary like a custom car, then you will probably be paying a premium at a car show, but if you are purchasing a stock car, you may be more likely to be offered a discount. So in general, a car show is likely to be dearer, the more customized the car.

This means that you have to have more knowledge, the more specialized the car is that you would like to buy. Anyone with enough money can buy a Ford Prius straight off the production line, you merely have to look in the Ford catalogue and look up the list price, but who knows the price or value of a personalized, hand-made 1968 Morgan 2-Plus-2?

There will be other concerns at a car show as well. The owner of the car may be actually busy talking to people about the car. Enthusiasts will have lots of questions about the car’s engine capacity, coachwork and age et cetera, so you might find it hard to get any attention. The other thing is that you will not be able to take the car for a test drive whilst it is at the exhibition.

You might find that the owner does not really take you seriously. This is almost certainly because he or she meet dozens of ‘tyre kickers’ each month. Everyone wants to know the answers to questions such as: how long did it take to do that? How much did it cost to do that? How much is the car worth? Is the car for sale?

You will certainly not be the first to ask these questions. The owner has heard it all before. If you are serious, get some contact details, take some photos and promise to get in touch after the show. Use the time you have left to do some study and find out whether you have a good deal on your hands or whether you just had a narrow escape.

Music-Orientated Careers And What They Are About

The United Kingdom has always had a very active music industry and although, or maybe because, we are in recession now, it is still thriving. Many young people are attracted to the music industry and so dream about getting a career in it.

However, we are not all musically gifted and only the very best get anywhere by following that path anyway, but there are other routes to go down if you want a career in the music industry.

There is a colossal raft of support needed to put musicians on the stage, television and radio, because musicians are notoriously too badly organized to get this work done on their own – especially top level musicians who insist that the stage, the lighting, the facilities and the contracts have to be just right.

So, once a musician has proved his or her worth, somebody has to get him bookings and promote his name, get him a record deal and make certain that he is sufficiently paid. This will be the music publicist

The label manager works for the recording firm and liaises between the various departments to make certain that the production and release of the artist’s CD’s are co-ordinated to the nth degree.

Management always has to have assistants and the music industry is no exception. An assistant to a manager in the music industry will have standard administrative duties not dissimilar to office duties in other industries, but the papers, contracts, invoices and cheques will be regarding famous, glamorous people that everyone knows from the Television.

The music industry employs research analysts to track and strive to predict future trends in music tastes. These researchers are sometimes called digital research analysts. This is quite a skilled job and necessitates expertise in the industry, in markets, trends and management.

The Internet plays an ever growing function in the marketing of music and the musicians who make it and so there are now openings for online editorial managers, whereas the career did not exist ten years ago.

The publicists and PR people also require co-ordinating on the Internet and web sites need to be built. Every band needs a Facebook and Twitter account and any other account in an online phenomenon that is up-and-coming.

There are events producers and junior events producers and senior events producers because live music produces more money than record sales since so much of that is pirated these days. Most bands could not continue without live events and most would not want to either, because performers like the limelight quite literally.

The music industry makes use of cheap labour as does even government and there are internships to be had. The pay for an intern is very low and occasionally they do not get paid at all, but they gain a wealth of experience and make very helpful contacts. The most enthusiastic and hard-working interns are normally hired after their internship is over.

There are routes into the music industry that might seem unconventional, but if you strive some of these avenues you will stand a better chance of procuring a career in the music industry.

How To Create The Right Office Environment

The office environment and the furniture in that office play a vital function in the productivity of that office. It also exerts a huge influence on the well-being of the office workers which will also have a big effect on productivity.

People need to be given the right tools if they are to be expected to do a job properly and in an office environment, the various pieces of furniture are some of the tools.

So, you, the boss, might think that you are saving money by purchasing cheap or second-hand tables and chairs, but that decision could cost you in lost productivity for the next ten or fifteen years. However, it is not only productivity that you could be losing, your furniture choices could also be affecting the health of your employees causing them to suffer aches and pains and even take sick leave. In the worst cases, you may even be taken to court.

Yet all you did was try to save a few dollars on a couple of chairs.

If you work for yourself, say, at home, this is equally if not more important, because if you are the only one in your firm and if you get sick, your firm stops trading, which could affect your kids’ schooling, your mortgage, your car payments and your future credit worthiness, if you do not have sufficient insurance.

Yet all you did was try to save a few dollars on a couple of chairs.

It is crucial to establish the correct working environment right from the outset. If you were a carpenter, you would not buy a rusty, secondhand saw and you would not buy yourself an old 386 computer to work at, so why not apply the same principles to the office furniture? Office furniture costs less than a new computer and will last at least three times longer.

So, which items of furniture will you require to equip an efficient office? Well, it is best to start with the chairs and work up, assuming that the floor is even and not slippery or wet. For the sake of ease we will just talk about you as the one employee using the office.

Whilst you sit on the chair, you should be able to put your feet flat on the floor and there ought to be a back rest. You can go more deeply into it, but they are the minimum requirements. This is why many office chairs are adaptable, because they have to be able to suit a assortment of individuals.

Then the table: it should clear your knees by at least six inches, but not be so high that you can not place your elbows on it without slouching. This will encourage correct posture, which will minimize the risk of backache or wrist pain. The desk or table should be big enough to hold all the items that you need to work on or with.

Therefore, you should consider the footprints of your desktop’s keyboard and monitor. Perhaps add space for a laptop for file-sharing, a paper notebook, a reference book, pen holder, mobile or other telephone, a coffee mug and whatever else you use to do your job. The desk should not look permanently cluttered up, even if you are a disorganized person.

It is a good idea to have a desk with draws to hold things that you use regularly. Some desks come with a small filing cabinet at one end and a set of drawers at the other. This is handy and can save space in a small, home office. Even if you get one of these desks, you might want a full-sized filing cabinet anyway. That depends on how much paperwork your business generates. A full height cabinet means less bending and you can put the coffee percolator on it.

Then you will require shelving. make certain that the shelving is installed at a height that is comfortable for the person who will use it most often and that there is enough of for predicted future use. Once you have your lovely new office set up and full of nice new equipment, you do not want to have to start drilling holes in the brickwork.

Which brings me to power points. Make sure that you have plenty of them. Have them all around the room. I like to have a double socket just to the left and just to the right of my desk just above desktop height as well – very useful for plugging the laptop into or the phone, or a lamp or a camera, if you need one.

How To Find Bargain Antiques

Most people like antiques because of the style and nostalgia they they evoke. Antiques also have a high perceived worth. However, this high perceived worth discourages many individuals from searching for them and collecting them. This is a pity because not all antiques are expensive. Valuation is difficult though unless one is in the antiques trade either by profession or by hobby / interest.

Comparison is not usually an option either if you see an antique that you like. For example, if you saw a candlestick telephone from 1920 on sale in a car boot sale, it is not likely that you will find others to compare it with. Is it worth $20, $50, $100 or more? It is very hard to tell, so the only thing is to ask yourself: what is it worth to me? How much money am I prepared to part with to own it?

Once you have the item, you can take it to an antique dealer and get a valuation so that next time you see one, you will have a better understanding. This might seem like an expensive way of learning, but you do end up with a collection of things that you like.

If you are starting to take an interest in antiques, it is a good idea to check out the reputations of some local dealers and then foster the friendship of a couple of the better ones. Spend time in their stores, purchase things that you like, sell items that you have found, but do not want for your collection and invite friends to go to the shop with you.

Smaller antique stores and second-hand stores that are run by a family are the best type to concentrate on because you can found relationships with individuals who count in that shop.

Employees tend to know less and have less remit to negotiate prices. The owner will also almost certainly have bought the item him- or herself, so they will know some of the history (or provenance) of it.

One way of getting a discount is to pay with cash. There are certain costs attached to paying with credit cards and cheques, but antique stores and second-hand shops like cash transactions because they are less visible.

In the world of antiques almost everything is second-hand and as such it will have been used. ‘Used’ equals worn, so look out for wear and tear. The more perfect the item is, the nearer to its top market value it will get.

Therefore, it is up to you to ascertain the real condition of something before you purchase it. You can hardly ever complain the following day that you did not notice a scratch or crack and expect your money back.

If you are going to concentrate on a specialist field, say, antique telephones, you can get handbooks on antique telephones. Read it, study it and carry it around with you. Immerse yourself in it and do not move on to studying another issue until you are self-confident in your chosen area. Then take in an associated field like telephone accessories.

How To Get The Most Out Of Cheap Car Rentals

Automobile rentals are an essential element of a lot of business and pleasure travellers? lives. If you are staying at a location away from home for more than a day and you have to get around, then hiring an automobile is a less expensive alternative than using taxis, especially if you are quite confident in traffic. However, there is a trade-off with some companies.

A lot of car rental companies are rather dear, but they do offer convenience. Then there are budget or cheap car rentals. This article is about how to get the most out of these cheap car rental automobile firms.

There are car rental firms that allow you to set the price that you want to pay for renting a car and then they will go out and find the best deal that they can in that price range. These are not exactly car rental firms, they are go-betweens., but they can present great deals.

You could try bundling your automobile rental into the price of your travel or hotel bill. Many airlines and hotel chains have tie-ins with automobile rental firms and they can therefore present great savings.

If you like to organize everything yourself, try the Internet. You probably already know that some of the best opportunities in every market are to be found on the Internet. You can often get special deals on the Internet that are only available to Internet shoppers. These can be discounts, upgrades, increased mileage or delivery.

One means of getting something is to ask for it. As a common saying goes: ?If you don?t ask, you don?t get?. Very often you will get a discount just for asking for it. Surprising, but true. If you are paying by credit card, it is worth inquiring whether your credit card entitles you to a discount as well. Never forget that many large companies have tie-ups.

It is well-worth inspecting the condition of the vehicle very carefully before driving away, otherwise you may end up paying for damage that you did not bring about. If there is damage, point it out to the renter and if you think it is indispensable, take photos of the impairment with the rental assistant pointing to it.

Know what your own insurance policy covers. Frequently, your own car insurance will cover you driving a rental car, so why pay again? Read your own automobile insurance policy with care before you travel and take a copy of its terms and conditions with you.

Turn up very early in the morning to pick up your car. Most people return rental cars at the last moment, so if you turn up early, they might not have a budget automobile for you and will have to upgrade you.

Make certain that the automobile is fitted with a good, working automobile alarm. This will ensure that you are not penalized if the rental car is stolen, when it was not your fault. By following all or at least some of these tips, you should save some money on cheap car rentals.

Quick Detailing Tips For Car Shows

If you exhibit your car at car shows, you will know the tension that exhibitors experience in the final 20 minutes before the judges are due to come around to look at your pride and joy. It is the same type of stress that animal breeders and would-be beauty queens feel when it comes to the final moments.

It does not matter how much effort you have put in during the preceding twenty-four hours, the last twenty minutes is invariably the worst. You certainly do need to have detailed your car the day before the show, but here are some quick detailing tips to keep you busy during those last couple of minutes when you are at car shows.

Glass: check all the windows and the paintwork around the bottom of the windows. Little boys love cars, especially beautiful cars and one of them may have pulled himself up on your car door’s ‘window ledge’ to get a better look inside. If he has sticky fingers, you have smudges.

Inspect your wing mirrors too, because teenage girls will assess their make-up in them and may even pull them off line.

Judges are impressed by gleaming glass, so keep one of those cloths for cleaning spectacles in a plastic bag in your pocket so that you can take care of any last minute smudges in a jiffy.

The cleaning cloths that you can buy from opticians are great for this job as they clean without smearing and dry almost immediately. They are fairly cheap too.

Chrome: the shiny chrome bumpers are just the correct height for kids to lay a hand on, so walk around the car with your optical cleaning cloth and just take care of any little finger prints. Likewise check the door handles and the boot lock, because they could all have had inquisitive hands on them.

Tyres: you will obviously already have cleaned your wheels, tyres and wheel arches, but you might notice a nick in a tyre at the last moment. You could fill an old nail varnish bottle with black paint (and one with white paint, if you have white-wall tyres), then if you see a blemish at the last moment, you can paint over it using the tiny brush affixed to the top of the nail varnish bottle.

Rubbish: check the region for rubbish like plastic and paper bags that could blow under your car. Of course, it is not technically your fault if someone has thrown their polystyrene hamburger box under your car or if a crisp packet gets blown against one of your wheels, but it still does not look good, so pick up any papers up wind of your car and check underneath for litter louts’ rubbish.

When you see the judges on the car next door, stop fussing and calm yourself down. Take a few deep breaths and get ready to be genial and helpful towards the judges.

They will probably have a few questions about your handiwork and this is your time to bathe in the glory of all your hard work.

Office Stress

Office stress is a very frequent occurrence. Office stress comes about because of the pressures of the work, which is frequently not so easy to define, particularly in a small firm. In a large office, jobs are quite clearly defined and everybody knows what they are responsible for.

In a small office though, the few members of staff often have to cover a dozen or so different jobs and so office stress can build up. Office stress can build up rapidly if the boss is unsympathetic or a member of a small office team goes off pregnant or sick whether a temporary stand-in is found or not.

Office stress is a very real phenomenon especially in a small business. For example, it is not uncommon for a company with $1 annual turnover to be managed by a staff of two – the office manager and a secretary. This means that the office manager has to be able to do each job and it is hoped that the secretary will be able to do most of them too. This creates office stress.

The secretary-cum-assistant will need to understand filing, typing, word-processing, data entry for book-keeping software, how to read job sheets, time sheets and invoices. The secretary will also have to welcome visitors, but keep sales people at bay, while staying polite.

The secretary will also have to have good phone manners and be able to reply to enough questions to be able to shield the manager from time wasters and deal with serious questions if the manager is not in. These jobs are difficult enough on their own, but office stress builds up if you find yourself trying to do three jobs at once and that is not uncommon.

You could be entering time sheet data the manager has gone to visit site, when the phone rings with an inquiry and a potential client comes in looking for a quote. This is enough to make office stress soar.

The manager will also need to be able to carry out these tasks, but the office supervisor will also be responsible for management accounts, pay, job costing, pricing, writing letters and keeping up with the law as the Company Secretary, which means that he/she will have to know enough about employment law to give advice to the directors.

This leads to terrific office stress. Besides all this, the office manager is usually responsible for paying and collecting taxes and keeping up with regulations and employment law. In these days of litigation and government claw backs, mistakes in any legal field are punished with expensive fines or compensation claims. This degree of responsibility also just increases the level of office stress.

The difficulty is that office stress, like most types of stress, leads to tension and irritability and irritability can lead to a short fuse and flashes of temper, which just goes to worsen the situation and raise the degree of office stress another peg.

The degrees of office stress soar if an important piece of office equipment breaks down, because it is always just as you need it. Because it can take hours or even days to get it repaired, you are expected to be able to carry out minor repairs yourself. And then if the boss is an unsympathetic or just unlikeable person then the level of office stress can get even worse.

How To Earn Money Buying And Selling Used Cars Part 2

In the first section of this mini-series on how to make money buying and selling used cars in the current financial conditions, we looked at what kind of individual is suitable to set up a used car business. In this section, we will look at where to actually establish your used car business.

So, how do you go about setting up your own used car business? The first thing to comprehend is that no matter whether you are establishing a part-time or full-time business, your customers and the government will expect you to conduct yourself and conduct your business in a professional manner and they have every right to do so.

If you do not conduct yourself appropriately, you will present a bad impression to your customers and get a bad name with them and you will get a bad standing with the taxation authorities and maybe the health and safety people too and be beleaguered by them with more that the average number of check-ups.

Decide what your most important market is. Do you want to specialize in used luxurious cars, middle-market or cheap vehicles? Or do you want to sell trucks, vans, buses or motorbikes? It is helpful to specialize, if your catchment area is big enough. For instance, if you live in a village miles from anywhere, it might not be worth specializing in second-hand buses, but second-hand farm gear could be a hit.

Pay a lot of attention to the site of your business. If you propose to sell one or two cars from adverts, this is not quite so important, but if you have thoughts for the future, you might want to get a small lot that you can expand on later.

This plot should be in a highly noticeable location, say alongside the highway that runs into town. If your site is less than ideal, you will have to spend a great deal more on advertising, which is something to keep in mind, when trying to work out what you can afford to pay for the plot.

Another important issue to keep in mind before agreeing to any contracts, leases or mortgages, is to find out whether you are permitted to open a used car business in that location. Some countries have a highly complex set of rules and regulations governing which kinds of business can be situated where. This is often called ‘zoning’. Sometimes you can get a ‘zoning variance’, but not every time.

Once you have your site and have chosen what type of used vehicles you want to specialize in, you should concentrate on establishing a unique corporate image – one that is instantly recognizable to local people as denoting your business. Use a motto, an emblem or a motif or a permutation of these, put up a sign and sign-write your van or tow-truck with them as well.

In the following part of this mini series, we will be examining how to locate your stock in trade – your vehicles.

Pay Day Emergency Loans

You just cannot predict an emergency, can you? That is the difficulty with emergencies. You can have insurance and you can have great friends and family, but if they cannot help as and when you require it, you are on your own again. Then what occurs if you require cash all of a sudden?

Recently, a friend of mine went down to the bank after work to draw money from the ATM with his cash card as he had done for years. He put the card in, entered his PIN and whir, whir, whir: “Please contact the branch that issued your cash card”. He knew there was money in the account and he was sure he had put the PIN in correctly, but it was a pain. No money and he would have to get an hour off work.

This he did and went to the bank, where he was told that his account was blocked due to a suspected attempt at identity theft. He was told that there would be a short inquiry of probably five working days, which meant no money for a week.

What do you do? What are the options? Friends, family? He did not want to admit to them that he had no money, so the only alternative accessible to him as he saw it was an emergency payday loan.

His account would be reinstated eventually, there was no question about that and he had all the regular insurance, but none of them could help him here. He had simply fallen through the support net that he had produced for himself.

Lots of people do not have such a support net anyway and many people do not have any savings either. Savings and insurance are frequently the first fatalities of a recession, which is one of the reasons for the rising popularity of payday loans.

However, it is important to read the terms and conditions and make certain that you will be able to abide by them or you could find that you have made a rod for your own back by accepting a payday loan.

The first conditions are normally that the applicant is of legal age, in stable employment and earning over a thousand a month. Occasionally you need to have a bank account as well (so make sure that you always have at least two in two different banks).

Anyone who meets the criteria will probably be successful. The money is accessible instantly, but it depends on how much is asked for. The usual range is 100 – 1,500 and the repayment will normally fall due within twenty-eight days. The interest rate, including charges, is horrendous, often at 30% or more, but to be fair, most of it is a charge, after all it costs equally as much to have an administrator approve a payday loan for 100 as it does for a payday loan of 1,500.

It is crucial to be wary with payday loans because they are so costly. They must only be used in dire emergencies and never for luxuries.

Car Valeting: 7 Tips

Do you drive around in style or in a sty? Do you take pride in your vehicle or are you going to wait for it to fall apart and then purchase a new one? Naturally it is your car, you do what you like but a tidy car is safer than a grubby one.

If you have cold drink cans and empty potato chip packets rolling about the floor, they could interfere with your feet. If you do not keep the outer surface clean, rust will set in and your car will become less structurally safe – less able to endure a crash.

So here are seven suggestions to help you valet your car. They might not all be life-savers, but they ought to all relieve some frustration and make your driving experience a bit more enjoyable.

1] Keep your windows spotless and clear. You need as much forward, rear and peripheral sight as possible. Remove anything dangling from the rear view mirror and swap big speakers on the rear shelf for low, flat ones.

Remove all stickers from the windows particularly the daft one that says: ‘Drive Safely – Baby On Board’. No one is going to drive more safely because you have a child with you, that is your job!

2] If your aerial jams, it is better to rub it with graphite powder than to squirt oil into it. The oil will only leak out and what stays will soon have dust sticking to it, which will cause it to stick more.

3] You get better results whilst cleaning, waxing or polishing, if you spray the liquid onto your rag rather than onto the car. Spraying directly onto the car causes puddles in some patches which normally result in smears and lots of extra rubbing, meanwhile abrasive dust can be getting stuck on this surplus and the motion of your cleaning might cause scratches. You also lose less spray to the wind.

4] While cleaning the glass, wipe up and down on one side of the glass and side-to-side on the other so that you can see where the smears are. It could save you half the effort.

5] Clean bird droppings from your car as soon as you can. This is because they are very acidic and will attack your paintwork each time they become wet. Never park under a tree because of this and because the rain dripping through the tree, especially in warm weather, will bring sap or oil from the tree and it is quite hard to get rid of when it is dry.

6] Whilst washing the exterior with a bucket of soapy water, begin on the roof, the bonnet and the boot; change the water and do one side of the car, change the water and do the other. Never throw the left over dirty water in the bucket onto the car or its wheels. This water is filthy, but you frequently see individuals do it.

7] Wash the engine from time to time. You will be happy you did if ever you have to get under the bonnet. The same goes for the spare wheel and keep an old pair of gloves in the wheel well for if you have to change a wheel.

Car Detailing Advice

Traditionally, middle class suburbanites would wash the car on Sunday morning before going for a drive with the family in the afternoon. Some people took this chore earnestly, but for most it was twenty or thirty minutes washing and polishing the outside and five minutes with the vacuum cleaner inside. Nowadays a lot more people expect a good cleaning that in those days was reserved for the well-off.

However, having your car detailed or valeted is still not inexpensive, typically costing $75 for an average job on an average sized car in average condition. When you start talking about a grimy SUV that has recently been used to transport the school football team, detailing in the right manner at a good firm can cost $300-$400.

Not a great deal of drivers can afford to pay that out frequently, particularly with the price of petrol being what it is, so here are a couple of car detailing pointers to help you do it yourself (or get the kids to do it for you).

i] Take out anything that can be removed and vacuum the carpets. Then wash the windows on the inside and clean the seats, upholstery and dash with an apposite cleaner, especially if the seats are covered in leather upholstery. Wash the things you removed, dry them and replace. Put a stick of slow-acting air freshener in the glove compartment and close all the doors.

2] Hose your car down, particularly in the wheel arches and under the bonnet to remove the worst of the muck and soften up anything that has gone rock-solid. Do not use a really strong power washer, ie one that is attached to a powerful pump. These power washers can blast grit away so hard that it scratches the paintwork. An ordinary hose attached directly to the mains is good enough

3] Check the mud under the wheel arch and blast it off with a slightly more powerful jet if yu have to. Do the wheels too, if they are bad. Once you can no longer see any build up of sludge, you can move on to the next stage.

4] Either mix a bucket of warm soapy water or attach a soap dispenser to your hose pipe. It is worth investing in proper car cleaner, because kitchen washing up liquid could be a little harsh for your car’s paintwork.

Do not try to save money on the amount of detergent you use, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations and apply it with a sponge or mitten. If you are using a bucket, be ready to change the water several times – you do not want to start rubbing grit into your paintwork.

Wash the car in sections starting with the roof and then rinse it off immediately. So, wash the roof, rinse it; wash a door panel, rinse it; move on and around your car until you get to the bottom – the bumpers and wheels.. You have to rinse instantly to stop a film of soap drying onto the paintwork, especially on a hot day.

Re-rinse the entire car in case you missed something. If you purchased a car wash with wax included, you are done, but if you would like the best finish, now is the time to wax on and then wax off.

How To Go About First Aid Training On Line

Everybody ought to take a course on First Aid, because no one knows when they will be the first person on the scene of an accident. Each parent should know about basic First Aid because children are so accident-prone and everybody should know some First Aid in order to become a decent citizen.

Fundamental First Aid is not hard and you can easily learn how to deal with cuts, fractures, choking, burns, scalds, fainting and several other frequent predicaments.

However, numerous individuals just do not have the time to do First Aid training. For this reason, many firms are now offering First Aid training on line. In fact, apart from learning how to cope with everyday physical worries, you can also learn how to do artificial resuscitation (CPR) and cope with heart attacks and drowning.

It is a fact that some individuals say that you can not learn First Aid on line or by reading a book, but others say that it is better to know something than nothing, that practicing on a dummy is not much use and that most people will hopefully not have to use their First Aid training for years and so will have forgotten the finer points anyway. A happy medium may be to do First Aid training on line first of all and then take a test at a training centre

The fact is that you can learn many items of knowledge during First Aid training on line. You can learn about hygiene, how to decontaminate wounds, how to wrap a bandage and apply a tourniquet or a make-shift tourniquet.

You will also be taught how to help a victim of burns and scalding, which you are much more liable to come across than a victim of heart attack or stroke.

There are many First Aid training courses on line and some are much better than others. As you know, computers are very powerful nowadays, so you ought to look for a course which makes full use of the Internet and your computer’s graphics capabilities.

Computers can produce very life- like images, so do not purchase an old First Aid training package that consists of merely thousands of words but no (interactive) images.

First Aid training on line is not costly and is maybe perfect for those who require a refresher course or a reference manual that they can pick up from time to time. It is also very useful to have a quiz at the end of each chapter to ensure that you have understood what you have read.

Attempt to find a package offering First Aid training on line that can be upgraded, so that you can purchase the modules that you would like to learn. If you purchase First Aid training on line that includes chapters on industrial chemical burns, it is merely padding for most individuals because you will never need to use them. Start with First Aid training on line that deals with the home, the garden and the car and move on from there, if you need to.

Owen Jones, the author of this piece, writes on many topics, but is currently concerned with First Aid trainer courses. If you have an interest in RC vehicles, please come over to our website now at First Aid Courses Online.

What First Aid Training Do Boy Scouts Get?

The Boy Scout Brigade is a global organization and the rules of membership might vary a little from country to country, but the fundamentals of scouting are the same the world over. One of the codes of belief of scouting is to ‘Be Prepared’ and being prepared involves being willing to help others in distress, which also includes First Aid.

Boy Scouts are encouraged to take badges such as the First Aid badge, there are also badges representing different degrees of ability. One of the items that a scout learns while training for his first First Aid badge is how to put together a personal First Aid kit.

A typical fundamental Boy Scout’s First Aid kit will include such things as soap, bandages, plasters, iodine, scissors, matches, tweezers and safety pins. At a higher degree, the kit may be supplemented with a triangular bandage, insect repellent, talcum powder, aspirins or paracetamol, gloves and a mouthpiece for giving artificial respiration.

A scout and especially a sea scout will learn how to put a person in the coma position and will also be shown how to get water out of a person pulled from the water.

The First Aid training that Boy Scouts get now has been upgraded numerous times over the last fifty years due to advances in medical knowledge and the explosion of aids and other contagious diseases.

Scouts lead a very dynamic existence and are always building structures and climbing. This means that there are quite a number of sprains and fractured bones among scouts, so it is not surprising that caring for fractured bones features largely in their First Aid training.

In fact, one of the first items that a cub or a scout is taught is how to use their neckerchief as a triangular bandage to support a fractured arm and how to fold it in order to tie splints to a fractured leg.

Scouts going for higher degree First Aid badges will be shown more detailed courses which might include how and when to apply CPR; how to distinguish a victim of stroke or heart attack; what to do if someone is undergoing an epileptic fit; what to do if someone is unconscious or suffering from concussion; how to deal with shock and much more.

Lord Baden Powell founded the Boys Scout Brigade as a sort of preliminary to going into the army, but it has not been regarded like that for numerous decades. Nowadays the scouts give boys (and sometimes girls) and teenagers the opportunity to do things that they otherwise would never have the opportunity to experience – activities like boating, canoing, camping, map-reading et cetera.

These activities put the children at a higher danger of injury, but the scouting organization counters that increased danger by training all their boys in First Aid and both the events and the First Aid training stays with them for the remainder of their lives. It has with me and I will always be indebted to the Boy Scouts for the items they taught me and permitted me to experience.

Personal First Aid Kits

It is good advice to “Be Prepared!”, which is the motto of the Boy Scouts. But why give up being prepared when you are an adult? It does not make sense.

One of the facets of being prepared, is to know something of First Aid and having a First Aid box so that you can apply your knowledge.

Once you adopt the attitude of being prepared to deliver First Aid, then there are a couple of things that you have to do next. The first step is to position decently equipped First Aid kits wherever they may become needed such as in the house, in the car and in the garage or work shed.

You can buy these kits on line and in the mall, but you ought to first find out what you should have in your First Aid kit. The contents of these kits can be different for each place that you would like to place one. There will be generic things for each kit, but there may be specialized items too.

Whilst we are at it, position a fire extinguisher by each kit while you are at it. If a fire breaks out you will need to know where the extinguisher is before you need the First Aid box.

After you have thought about where to put your kits, you can begin thinking of what you are going to put in them. Every kit should include items like one inch bandages, iodine, alcohol swabs, plasters, aspirin or and paracetamol, soap, tweezers, scissors, a triangular bandage, throwaway gloves, a few matches and a candle, but there is a lot more that you can include.

However, there are also other things that you can include like a tube of super glue, a thermometer, hydrocortizone, insect repellent, anti-histamine and a torch with extra batteries. If you are putting this kit in a car or boat, you could add a blanket, socks, and gloves.

Another item that you may like to add is a pamphlet on first Aid, just in case it is not you who has to use the kit. This is an vital point, because if this is a car First Aid kit, someone may find you after you have had an accident, but they may not know what to do.

Everyone should take at least one First Aid course and if you are a head of your household it is up to you to persuade the others to learn some fundamental First Aid as well.

It is normally easy enough to find First Aid courses locally. You can look on line, in the Yellow Pages, at your doctor’s surgery or at the civic offices. Frequently the courses are free or sponsored, but at any rate they are not costly.

If you are working, your employer might be receptive to a request for group First Aid training. The difficulty is not finding good First Aid training courses on or off line – the trouble is getting it organized. However, the first step is to make enquiries to find out where the courses are taught.

Chemicals Used For Cleaning Cars

Whether you are an amateur detailing your own car or a professional twelve cars a day, you should get well au fait with the chemicals used in the industry, because all chemicals are dangerous if misused.

However, safety is just part of the reason for getting to know the chemicals used for cleaning cars, you also have to know if someone is attempting to sell you liquids that will or just cannot do the job.

There are a great deal of charlatans in any line of business and a fool and his money are soon parted. Knowing the chemicals used for cleaning cars will help you avoid being duped by suppliers.

For instance, you will often hear people say that you can wash the inside of a car using the liquid from only one bottle.

This is simply not the case, especially if you have various textiles inside the car like plastic door linings, cloth carpets and leather upholstery. It is just not possible to clean all these different fabrics well with just one liquid.

Surfactants are clever types of soap-like substances and consist of different ingredients, a little like combined shampoo and conditioner for humans. These surfactant molecules consist of two kinds a hydrophile and a hydrophobe. The hydrophobe is drawn to dirt and it tries to break it down, whilst the hydrophile envelopes the dirt so that it can be borne away.

The most common solvent known to man is water, but it has only a limited effect on grease, so in the case of grease, manufacturers turn to butyl and dilemonene, which is extracted from lemon and orange peel. These solvents are costly, but they are fairly harmless and can be used on several surfaces.

Other fats, such as sweat, can be washed away using animal fats that have been cured with a saponifier, which is normally a strong alkaline. This does not sound very agreeable, but we have all used soap made from animal fats.

The animal fat mixes with the human fat (say perspiration) and they dissolve into one another. The alkaline then breaks them down so that they can get borne away. You do this each day when you wash or take a shower.

The science of cleaning is quite a complex one when you start looking into it, but why some products are only effective for one sort of job only becomes apparent once you do study it.

However, once you do find out what is actually going on and where the chemicals have come from, a lot of individuals wish that they had not taken the time to go into the topic.

In summary, and to keep it simple (more for my sake than for yours, I assure you) strive to treat like with like. Be suspicious of using a chemical for other than its specified job without having carried out trials on out-of-sight patches. Strive to use petroleum based cleaners on oil; alkaline cleaners on organic materials and acids on non-organic materials.

Car Detailing To Preserve Your Investment And Your Life

A lot of individuals detail or clean their car for aesthetic reasons and that is all very well, but there are far more essential reasons for detailing one’s car. Most individuals spend roughly the same percentage of their money on a car. I mean that as they get a better career, they tend to buy a better car. Therefore a car is a sizable investment for most drivers.

It makes sense to safeguard one’s investments and even if you cannot make your car grow in value, you can at least take every measure in your power to reduce the speed of its depreciation. One of the foremost ways of doing this is by frequent maintenance and detailing a car ought to be regarded as part of your regular maintenance programme.

Car detailing as part of a maintenance programme also has a safety aspect. You assume that if your brakes are not serviced in the correct manner that there is a greater chance that they may fail one day and you ought to expect that if you do not take proper care of your car’s bodywork that it might rust and be less protective in case of a crash.

So having said that here are a few tips to help you protect your investment and perhaps even your life.

Windscreen wipers ought to be kept spotless and unworn at all times. Have you ever sat in a car with bad windscreen wipers whilst it is raining? It is very frightening. If it has not rained for a while, then you will not have noticed the dust and grit building up under the windscreen wiper blades.

This abrasive dirt will soon score your windscreen, especially if someone accidentally switches them on when it is not raining. A scratched windscreen is bad enough, but if the blades are worn, they will not clear the rain sufficiently for you to see properly either.

You should make a point or regularly lifting the blades from the windscreen and checking and cleaning them. You will soon see if the rubber is starting to perish or fray and you will also notice a line of solidified dust (or worse) on the glass. Wet both the wipers and the glass before attempting to clean them in order to soften up the dirt.

Use a sponge or chamois leather on the glass, but use an old rag on the rubber blades, because they can ruin a new sponge or costly chamois leather. Keep this rag for cleaning other abrasive parts of the car like the wheels, number plates and bumpers.

When you are cleaning the windows of your car, it is a good idea to get into the practice of finishing the cleaning of the outside with vertical wipes and the inside with horizontal ones (or vice versa, if you like). This way you will know which side those maddening, and frequently distracting, smears are.

While we are on the topic, it is not a clever idea to obstruct your vision by having furry dice or anything else hanging from your rear-view mirror. These symbols are intended to bring good luck and protection, but they are the exact opposite. Similarly nodding dogs and big speakers on the rear shelf are obstructive and window stickers of any size are silly. Transparent glass is intended to be seen through not looked at.

Chronic Headaches

Most individuals who just have headaches very infrequently perhaps do not comprehend that there are different types of headache. Different sorts of headaches have an effect on different parts of the head and even headaches that have an effect on the same area last different lengths of time. The ones that last the longest, giving almost continuous pain, are called chronic headaches.

Chronic headaches can seem like episodic migraine – a throbbing in the temples – but unlike episodic migraine, chronic headaches can go on for days, weeks, months and even years. One of the causes of chronic headaches is stress.

One of the features of these headaches is that the stress can increase in a vicious circle. That is, stress brings on the headache, then you worry about the headache which causes more stress, which creates more pain and so on. This is a very difficult cycle of events for some people to break out of.

You can even bring on a stress-related chronic headache by worrying that you might have a headache. It is very depressing, because it seems that you just cannot win.

Sufferers of chronic headaches have a miserable time of it and normally make life miserable for everybody around them as well. Therefore, if you are in continuous pain, do something about it.

The first thing to attempt is to discover the reason for your stress or concern. Something is starting your headaches and you probably know what it is.

You have to scrutinize your life and find out what is so upsetting in it. Is it your partner, your career, your neighbours or your children? Is it an illness of yours or a close friend or member of the family? Money and debts? It could be a combination of several causes, in which case, you will have to de-stress them one by one.

This is the only certain method of countering chronic headaches that are caused by stress. You can take tablets to kill the pain and tablets to put you to sleep and tablets to calm you down, but in the long term, you know that they are not actually helping and that feeling will stress you out even more.

Other types of chronic headaches are chronic cluster headaches and chronic tension headaches. Episodic cluster headaches will happen each now and again, but chronic cluster headaches happen a number of times a day for years. Somewhere between 10% an 15% of sufferers from cluster headaches get chronic indications.

There are various names for chronic cluster headaches depending on the severity of the pain.

An episodic tension headache is the most common kind of headache. Everyone gets them from time to time, but a chronic tension headache is when you get periods of pain lasting for at least 15 days in a three month period.

If you suffer from chronic headaches, do not just take medication or do not just sit it out. You require professional advice once you suspect that you have a problem. You could endeavour to tackle it alone by taking up a sport or yoga to reduce your stress and tension, but it actually is better for you to tackle the problem of chronic headaches with the support of a professional.

Owen Jones, the author of this piece, writes on a lot of topics, but is at present concerned with chronic headaches. If you want to find out more go to Stopping Headaches.

Why Do A First Aid Course?

Have you ever been the first individual on the scene of a bad accident? I have – a cyclist took a corner rather fast and too sharp. He came off his bike and was knocked unconscious. I went over, but I had no idea what to do. I felt sorry for him because I could not help and I felt embarrassed for myself and still do, ten years later.

This is why everybody should know the basics of First Aid. Everyone ought to know how to make an accident victim comfortable and how to resuscitate him or her if you have to until medical professionals arrive.

Everybody should know what to do in the event of accidents that cause such common events as choking, drowning, fractured limbs, heart attacks, burns, scalding and electric shock. Everyday accidents that not everybody sees every day luckily.

A basic First Aid course will teach the ‘Four P’s', although they might call it by a different name. The Four P’s are Preservation of life; Prevention of further injury; Promotion of recovery and the Protection of yourself.

This is achieved by the application of ‘ABC’, which stands for ‘Airways, Breathing and Circulation’, which means that first you ought to check the nose, mouth and throat for blockages, then check for breathing and resuscitate if you have to, then reduce any bleeding with bandages and tourniquets, if necessary.

Knowledge of CPR or artificial resuscitation is also desirable and it is also a major component of any First Aid course. Artificial resuscitation ought to be applied if the patient has stopped breathing or the heart has stopped beating. Some fundamental training is preferential before applying CPR, because it can injure a patient that does not require it.

Besides just wanting to become a decent citizen, there are a number of other factors why you might like to take a First Aid course. Some jobs need that those who carry them out have been on a First Aid course. Professions that may have to have knowledge of First Aid include: supervisors of children like play school leaders, teachers, scout masters and youth club leaders.

Some occupations will more than likely supply their own First Aid course. This would almost certainly be true in the police force and in factories where special industrial accidents might occur such as chemical burns.

If your First Aid is a bit rusty, you should consider taking a refresher First Aid course. You will find numerous First Aid courses once you start searching. Your local community centre may arrange a First Aid course from time to time, so might your local hospital, police force, ambulance and fire services.

If not, you will always find a First Aid course on line. If you take a First Aid course on line, you will probably have to attend an actual test of your information if you require a certificate, although all the study can be done at home, which will save time.

Before you leave, here is another mnemonic to help you remember: ‘BBB’, breathing before bleeding, bleeding before bones’ or should that be the ’6 B’s'?

Indications Of Stress

We are all under stress the majority of the time and a lot of people like to think that they understand stress and can use it to get a piece of work done to the best of their capacity, but do you really know what the symptoms of stress are and what it can do to your body? When we are piling the stress onto ourselves, we merely assume that our bodies will adapt and get on with it, but is that actually the case?

The fact is that we all have our own point at which stress is reasonable. This is because stress can be emotional, physical and mental and if you exceed your capacity for any length of time in any of these areas, you can cause short-term or even longer term damage, which could need professional medical help.

If you do not take steps to regain your equilibrium, you will soon find that the apposite role in your life will suffer: that is, your relationships will fail, your physical health will crumble or your ability to do your job in the correct manner will vanish.

The physical manifestations of stress are aches and pains, including headaches, general fatigue and lethargy. Unchecked, these symptoms can lead to migraine, muscle tension and stiffness.

These major alterations to how your body operates can then result in other issues such as diarrhea or constipation, nausea and dizziness. These indications of stress, in turn, can lead to sleepless nights or insomnia.

When it gets this bad, individuals normally turn to medication, but medication can merely give temporary relief such as sleeping tablets. This can lead to dependence.

If the sufferer already has a weak heart, this combination of indications of stress can lead to chest pains, palpitations and erratic heart beat, which in turn can be precursors of heart disease. Please note that this chain of activities is not guaranteed.

Individuals are different and some doctors are better than others, but stress and heart disease have been shown to be connected.

Symptoms of stress can also show themselves in behavioural problems. These indications of stress frequently begin with insomnia or only problems getting to sleep and waking up still tired. However, feeling continually dog-tired has a knock-on impact on our emotions – we tend to become more emotional, but usually in a negative way. Often this means over-reacting, like snapping at someone who has asked a perfectly reasonable question.

This sort of response can lead to the sufferer shunning society. Self-pity, isolation, loss of job and depression can soon follow.

So, you have to learn how to get off that slippery slope, the downward coil of everyday stress. The place to begin is the mind. You have to learn how to recognize when ‘things are getting on top of you’ and learn how to unwind.

There are several successful techniques including meditation, breathing exercises, aromatherapy and playing soothing music in order to bring about a condition of relaxation in your mind.

While you are learning to take the symptoms of stress head-on with your mind, take some time to pamper your body too. There are also many methods of doing this, but popular methods are taking a sauna or having a massage or pedicure, facial or manicure. Having your hair done.

Physical exercise is a great reliever of stress as well and it does not have to be arduous. A thirty minute walk, two times a day is sufficient for most people, but you might grow to like it and then it is the more the better.

Finally, you could take a good look at your diet. You do not have to go overboard, but do you drink too much coke, coffee or tea? Do you consume a lot of rubbish? Are you eating enough fruit?

Breaking Age-Related Social Norms

The post Second World War years were an age of prosperity for numerous countries, but particularly the United States because their plant and infrastructure was unscathed and they made a great deal of money furnishing the products the rest of the world required to rebuild their countries.

America was working flat-out in the Fifties and early Sixties and salaries and national prosperity kept increasing. A similar feeling of goodwill was evident in numerous other countries, but it was relief that the war was finished and gratitude that their lives and cities were being rebuilt. This feeling of international joy and plentiful employment also led to a boom in babies.

The so-called Baby Boomers were being born in their millions into a joyful time where money and employment was everywhere to be had. Education was seized upon not just by these youngsters but also by many returning service men and women, who wished to assume a bigger role in that bright new world that was stretching out before them.

With a better education and the feeling of liberation that the ending of the War brought about, the Civil Rights Movement started to flourish particularly in America were non-Caucasians were still being segregated.

Although it was not known as Apartheid, segregation is simply the English word for the same idea and masses of people were beginning to find it intolerable and not only non-Whites either.

Individuals after the War were far less respectful of Authority, Governments and the Old Ruling Orders for several reasons. It was these individuals who got us all into wars in the first place and it was these people who were denying Civil Rights. Even if they did not condone segregation they did not do much to stop it.

As Marx or Engels said, nobody gives away power, it has to be taken.

The people alive in the Fifties and Sixties were unlike any generation that had ever preceded them. They had money, education, a healthy disrespect for authority and a higher percentage of individuals who had been abroad than ever before in history.

Even if they were carrying weapons at the time. This was a heady cocktail and civil disobedience raged all over the world from America to Europe to Thailand in the Sixties and Seventies.

The new order articulated itself in music and rock and roll was its name. Never before had youngsters had their own music and they had the technology to replicate it cheaply, the freedom to broadcast it and the money to buy it. A whole new industry was started in the Fifties – record labels aimed at teenagers.

Now that the Baby Boomers are getting old, they are breaking other norms too. Boomers are questioning why the are expected to feel old at sixty-five and stop work. At sixty-five nowadays people frequently still have twenty years left to live and if the past is anything to go by, they will not merely roll over and die on this one either.

The Best Way To Clean Glass

There is something very gratifying about having cleaned dirty glass. Glass is most frequently used as a window onto the world. The glass is a lens and as such should be clean.

Everyone who wears glasses will understand this principal. Dirty spectacles are annoying and have to be cleaned instantly. This is also the case for a car’s windscreen.

However, glass has some other uses besides being a lens. Glass is used to allow natural light to enter; stained glass is used to create a picture; toughened glass is used for table tops and glass is used to make ornaments and drinking vessels.

The thing is though that because glass always has some type of interaction with light, we like to see it clean and it angers us when we see dirty glass. Dirty glass is a sign of neglect, a sad sign that no-one cares about it.

So, a relevant question is: how do you clean glass? We probably all think that we know the answer to this question and we probably all can and do clean glass, but which are the best ways to clean glass?

There are dozens of spays and chemical solutions on the market and you probably have your specific favourite under the sink right now, but there are also traditional mixes that can be made from ingredients located in most well-stocked kitchens.

However, before moving on to the liquid to use, we will talk about the equipment for applying the cleaner. We will talk about windows as they are by far the biggest glass objects that most people have to clean.

Mix your liquid in a bucket and then transfer it to a spray bottle, if you like. One note on safety here: never take a bucket up a ladder, it can topple you over. Some people prefer to spray the liquid cleaner on and then scrape it off with a squeegee – a rubber blade like a car’s windscreen wipers, others prefer more traditional techniques.

Before the squeegee, all professional window cleaners, myself included, used a square of scrim, which is like sacking. I used a square of scrim which was approximately 18 inches square, but the size you use should make a comfortable ball in your hand. I used this to rub on the solution, and I used a large cotton rag to wipe it off. This is an excellent combination which creates excellent results.

Other people swear by newspaper, but I have never seen a professional doing his rounds with a bundle of newspapers. Having said that, my wife and our neighbours all use newspapers to clean the windows and the results are just as good.

There are certain weather conditions that you ought to avoid when planning cleaning windows and they are rain and hot, direct sunlight. You can still clean windows in the rain, after all you will still be removing the grime, but people do not like it. They seem to think that you have ‘got away with something’, somehow done less of a job and to be honest, it is harder to tell, if you have done a good job and drying off is well-nigh impossible.

In hot direct sunlight, the liquid will dry off too rapidly, so in effect you are merely moving the dirt around and hoping that most of it will stick to the scrim. Therefore, the morning and the evening are the best periods to clean glass.

We used to use a dash of plain washing up liquid and a cup of methylated spirits in a bucket of water to clean windows and it worked a treat for all the windows or two or three houses before it needed changing, but other people have different suggestions, some of which I have listed below.

Vinegar and water mixed at a ratio of 4:1 and rubbed on with newspaper. Dry off with newspaper as well.

Ammonia, washing-up liquid and water applied with newspaper (wear rubber gloves).

Equal parts of methylated spirits, paraffin oil and water applied and dried off with cloths.

Ideas On Advertising Your Memory Foam Mattress Business

The memory foam mattress has scarcely had a meteoric rise in popularity historically. Memory foam itself was invented in 1966 by an off-shoot of NASA and it was first turned into commercial items in the Seventies.

The first use it was put to was mattresses, pillows, cushions and chair padding, although the only item that was available to the general public back then was the memory foam orthopaedic mattress.

However, it was so costly that just institutions such as hospitals could afford them. Now, forty years later, memory foam is a great deal cheaper and memory foam mattresses can be bought by anybody who wants one for a few hundred dollars.

Memory foam mattresses are very popular and their popularity is increasing every day, which opens up the chance to sell these space age mattresses. This could be a very opportune time to begin a memory foam mattress business, especially if you have lost your job in the recession or think that you are in danger of losing it.

There is absolutely no doubt that the public is interested in memory foam products, but they are especially interested in memory foam mattresses, toppers, cushions, pillows and pads. If you accept that this is true then the next step is to advertise your business, assuming that you do not want to carry stock and that you will have the items drop-shipped by a supplier straight from their warehouse.

The important points of memory foam goods are: it reduces pressure on the joints, back and skin because it increases the surface area of your body that it supports and that it is air-conditioned – that is it conforms to the background temperature of the room it is used in more closely than other mattresses because of its cell structure.

Hopefully, you can get these particulars from your supplier so that you can compose successful adverts, classifieds or commercials for the memory foam products that you would like to sell. It is important to get sight of the manufacturer’s specifications and advertising, before you write your own adverts.

Read, study, learn and inwardly digest this information from the manufacturers before you do anything else, so that you can speak and write knowledgeably on it. Purchase a mattress or topper claiming your discount so that you have first-hand familiarity with memory foam.

Memory foam is still new or unknown to many people, so you could provide the local press with a 300-500 word article for inclusion in their paper, if they forward all enquiries to you.

You could also compose a press release about your new business. You could have 10,000 B4 fliers printed and pay the newspaper deliverer to include one flier in each newspaper.

Get yourself some business cards and hand them out at every occasion. No more passing on your phone number on a bit of paper and leave one on every pub or restaurant table you sit at. Leave one as a book-marker in each library book you read.

Classified ads can be a good source of inquiries, but you will need a campaign of seven or eight weeks to get good results

Produce a web site for your product and advertise the web site rather that the product over the web and do not forget to include your web site address on your business card and fliers.

Starting A Mattress Cleaning And Sanitizing Business

Times are difficult and becoming harder and bosses are finding it difficult to keep staff on, which makes the likelihood of redundancy a very real; possibility for many people. One means to try to secure some sort of income is to begin your own small business from home, which is what many people are turning to.

If you are looking to begin a business for yourself, you will almost certainly have seen many opportunities of dealerships or franchises in the classifieds, so which one should you go for? The answer might be a mattress cleaning and sanitizing business.

Why am I proposing that you give this business plan some thought? Well, I will lay out the fundamentals of my rationale below.

More and more people, especially the young have become sensitive to allergens. In other words, allergies are on the rise and the bed is one of the most common origins of these allergens along with carpets.

You see, all beds and all carpets are home to millions and millions of dust mites, which are tiny creatures, invisible to the naked eye, that feed on flakes of dead human and animal skin that we all shed every day. These mites defecate and die and rot, both of which can be an irritation causing itchy skin, coughing and red eyes.

Then there are bed bugs. The incidence of bed bugs is increasing exponentially like no period for more than seventy years and the biggest challenge is in inner cities and hotels. Nobody wants to sleep where they think that there might be bed bugs.

People are keen to save money, so if they suspect that they have a problem with their mattress, it is cheaper to clean and sanitize their existing mattress than to buy a new one. This is the case of private individuals but especially true of hotels with dozens or even hundreds of beds.

As human sensitivity to allergens and the incidence of bed bugs continues to increase, a business that offers to clean and sanitize mattresses can only expand.

You are doubtless new to the business of cleaning and sanitizing mattresses, so it would be best for you to acquire a franchise from an existing firm that knows precisely what you need to get the job done professionally and at low cost.

The good thing about the equipment that you require to clean and sanitize mattresses is that it will work on carpets, curtains, pillows, upholstery and anything of that kind and it will not only cope with with dust mites and bed bugs but also with infestations of fleas and ticks and various types of mold and bacteria.

You will need to do a lot more research if you like the idea of this business. Try to find a supplier who will let you buy the equipment, not merely rent it, and will supply promotional literature too.

If the firm can provide leads as well that would be very useful to the beginner, but is not essential. The company should also provide training in the use of its mattress cleaning and sanitizing equipment

Jobs In The Music Industry Most People Don’t Know About

If you like music a great deal, you might be hoping of going into some area of the music industry yourself. Undoubtedly, you will have been told that this is notoriously hard and I am not trying to insinuate that it is not, but perhaps most people who are trying to get into the music industry are going for the same jobs.

The list of jobs available in the music industry must include teachers, songwriters, doctors, therapists and many others, not only singers and musicians, so it pays to think laterally if you want to go in this direction, because traffic on the main highway is usually at a stand-still. Anyway, here is a list of other jobs in the music industry and I hope that it is of some help to you.

There are jobs with music and record businesses for staff song-writers, that is, for people who write songs for the artists who are contracted to that label. Find a couple of artists that you respect working for the same label, compose some songs for them and apply.

If you cannot find a solitary label that suits you, you could do the same job as a freelance song-writer. This way you are not restricted and can compose for all the artists that you like.

If you are good with words but not such a great musician, you could become a lyricist. A lyricist might or may not team up with a musician to create a song. Like Gilbert & Sullivan or Rogers & Hammerstein.

Jingle-writers are forever in demand, at least good ones are. Jingles need to be short but catchy. Writing jingles pays good money, but it will perhaps not make you famous outside the music industry.

A music publisher searches the market for freelance songs and buys up the copyright or license to publish those songs or to sell or license them to singers and musicians.

A music editor might work with a composer or song-writer to make sure that the timing and the cues for the musicians and singers are feasible.

Notesetters have to have a good ear for music as their job is to write down in musical form what untrained musicians play for them. There are many, many modern musicians who cannot write a note of music but who can produce very good songs. These songs have to be written down by someone and that someone is a notesetter.

A talent scout in the music industry has the official title of Artist & Repertoire Co-ordinator or A&R Co-ordinator for short. A step up from this position is the A&R Administrator, who co-ordinates the co-ordinators and sets and monitors their budgets – a sort of a musical accountant.

Then there are the jobs in public relations. These people usually work for record labels. They promote the artists who have signed onto a record company’s label. There are quite a few levels of responsibility in this department.

An agent or an relations representative, is aperson who promotes his client and finds him or her work. They check the contracts and give business advice. They are well-|known as ‘Mr. Ten Percent’ although in practice it is usually double this unless you are famous.

Campus representatives advertise records to students and promotional staffers promote wherever they can – radio channels, shops, musical directors.

Music teachers teach music to groups from pre-school through to college level. Their responsibilities vary with the age of the student and the purpose of the class.

A music director has the job of supervising policy in school or college or setting the entertainment for a cruise or a holiday camp, hotel or holiday complex.

Then there are organists in churches all over the country, who often double in other musical careers.

How To Choose The Right Office Furniture

|When people are thinking about procuring office furniture they fall into two groups. There are the inexperienced who think that they have to go for functionality and there are the ones that have been through that and opt for comfort and style.

It is not that these two ideas are mutually exclusive, but most buyers of office furniture instinctively think that they are. The fact is, that when a client walks into an office, first impressions matter. No matter which business you are in this is a fact. However, office furniture ought to be appropriate to the station of the firm using it.

It is just as ridiculous to go over the top as it is to be stoic. This is not only important to clients and visitors (potential clients), but it is also vital to the self esteem of the people who work for them – the office staff require to feel appreciated and the people working for the company but outside the office have a need to feel proud of the firm they work for as well.

Therefore, it is crucial to get the right office furniture in order to create the right image for your company and it is essential to get the right office furniture to create self-respect in your employees. But there is another aspect to why you ought to get the right office furniture and that is because the right office furniture will increase the efficiency of your office.

Everybody will instantly realize that efficiency is the objective of every office. Efficiency means that the office can either reduce charges to the clients, which will obviously please them or the office can keep prices up to the industry benchmark level and increase profits for the owners. This is an important managerial decision the role in which the correct office furniture ought not to be underestimated.

So, how do you go about achieving this ideal office environment? Well, astonishingly for most people, the starting point should be the office chair. It needs to be ergonomic, which is another topic that I and many others have written about before. It is too much to go into here, just do a search.

When you have the worker seated correctly, the table should be at a height that is at least six inches above the knees. Most office employees like to have a hardwood table for prestige and this can be accomplished fairly easily even on a budget with a veneered table.

A decent alternative is a glass table. However, the glass table should be ‘smoked’ or tinted and definitely manufactured from toughened glass. The tint is good for modesty and because it looks more stylish and toughened for safety.

The table ought to be as big as feasible both for reasons of prestige and because a cluttered desk is maddening to work at. It is important to allow an office worker enough space to do the job well that they are there to do, which also affects their self-esteem and job-satisfaction. Raising employees’ job satisfaction, which does not only include pay, is one of the best ways of raising office productivity.

For an supervisory situation, most employers will hope to take on those who are already experienced in the field for which they are applying for employment. This means that the applicant should buff up on the areas concerning their selected careers. This will show that the candidate has already started on a coherent career path and is already erudite in that field.

It will do an candidate no good to claim to be a ‘jack of all trades but a master of none’ Six out of 10 applicants are hired because of their proficiency in a certain field. Trucking Is Actually Much More Than A Occupation But A Way Of Life

Carrying my load along interstate 5 with the radio playing and fresh mountain air blowing through my locks, I realized that trucking is actually more than a job but it absolutely is in fact a way of life. Winding up the roads with my load up the west coast, a big elk runs in the front of me, I stop and see a massive bull elk sauntering over the road while he looks back at me. In fact, he looks at me with a prideful stride and in short order makes his way into the heavy North West deep forest.

Certainly one of my most favorite landscapes was just outside of Savannah, Ga on interstate 16. As I peered over the swamp, the sun had just risen and was reflecting off the still dark water. The beautifully shaped orange sun peaked through the draping Cypress branches & Spanish moss which surrounded the wonderfully appealing dark waters of the pristine haven. This particular sunrise for sure has been the most interesting sunrise I had ever seen. Even now, I hold out to get back to Savannah and go to that very same swamp and get up early awaiting the early morning light

Should you be an extended haul trucker you will know your best buddy is your own truck and that comfortable cab. You drive and drive until you see an awesome rest stop or a trendy truck stop in order to turn in. A lot of truckers appreciate big store lots like Wal-mart and have the opportunity to shop and replenish for the long haul.

I have witnessed various other truckers stock up for several days in case they come across problems and have to lay out a big prime rib. It’s not unheard of to observe truckers in the northwest with grills mounted right on the truck. When you might want to cook up supper it can be done in style just like home as well as maybe invite a couple of trucker buddies for a trucker party.

It is hard to find a big rig without a TV or a laptop computer. The web helps truckers to stay connected and deal with everyday life. There is a increasing development of truckers who use cellular phones and applications for connecting and sharing their trip on the road. Websites like facebook and twitter allow real-time blogging and cell phones like the Iphone allow for quick video and image sharing too. Not only do cell phones allow excellent communication but they allow truckers to better keep an eye on travel time using GPS navigation.

There are plenty of old school truckers nonetheless running the long interstate routes that do not depend on today’s hot gadgets. In a way trucking is really a discipline that banks on human intuition and plain old good sense. Getting sufficient food, water, fuel, tools, and courage is what it takes to drive a big rig these days.

Not only can trucking be a dangerous business but it takes specific type of spirit to drive a large rig. So the next time your on the highway to see a big rig, bear in mind that they were most likely up and running before you even woke up. Truckers move America and help us enjoy the things in life that all of us use everyday. Trucking is more than a job but a way of life, let’s hit the road truckers.

Executives’ Gifts

For those elite people in business, who have probably known the better things in life, personalization is the key to giving the perfect retirement gift. It must be something that permits them to remember their legacy in the corporation, where they had worked so hard for decades to get to the desk of their desires.

The present should be something related to their former business interests, and which, after their whole life-time of successful deals and spot-on investments, reminds them of those business-related activities that gave them pleasure and therefore that will give them pleasure again. These two concepts are fundamental and essential to stimulate the former executive to remember about their working lives, and of course, the one who had given them the present.

For The Keen Golfer: Nothing says leisure and enthusiasm more than the sport of golf. The demand for golf clubs, gloves, golf-carts and the like has soared over the years due to the proliferation in industries like hedge fund investing and financial advisors in general. A rising number of business people just means more golfers since golf is the sport where lots of them go to do deals and become acquainted. Further evidence of this, is that golf courses are becoming more commonplace in rising countries like India and China, where ‘Mission Hills’ and many other courses are often advertised in the sporting press.

It only takes some creative thought. You could put their company logo, family seal or monogram on golf balls, markers, tees and golf bag to show that certain kind of privilege that they relish. For those who like to take friends to the golf course with them, nothing says group bonding more than personalized golf shirts for the whole group of friends!

If they have played particularly well in a favourite golf tournament, a small personalized scorecard print will also stimulate memories just as much as photos do. With their podium photos and ranks immortalized for ever, you can conjure up the joi-de-vivre of the golf competition and help the golfer (and other participants) to relive the moment just as if they were replaying and enjoying the game again.

Recreational Gambling: Some executive types spend some of their free time in casinos, where they display their abundance and attempt to win more to boot. Such people live life in the fast lane, as hey say, gaining and losing lots of money as they go along. The ideal present for this kind of person, are items that represent his/her lifestyle, like a personally blended cigar or a monogrammed cigar case and cutter. How about a customized deck of cards with the logo that represents the retiree’s trade or industry?

You can also go for the classic gift of expensive wine or champagne, the taste of which reminds one of the good life with its incomparable taste. A bottle of Chateau Lafite, Cristal Brut or Clos du Mensil are on this list. Presenting top-flight executives with these types of privilege is integral to the perfect retirement party for them. Cigar cases with a monogram and expensive wine go a long way to achieving this.

Conclusion: Nothing else reminds them of their previous lifestyles more than personalized items that represent their old way of life. Giving these sorts of gifts to retiring executives hits the nail right on the head. They should live their golden years the way they want them to be and thinking along the lines of luxury and personalization will help you discover the best retirement gift for them more easily.

Retirement Gifts For Golfers

There is a commonly-held belief that golf is the pastime and sport of entrepreneurs and businessmen. It also has the reputation of being exclusive and elite and not being available to ordinary blue collared workers. However, this is not really true, since modern technology and globalization have brought this so-called elite sport into the reach of normal people.

This is because you don’t need to get hold of sophisticated equipment to play. Unlike big game fishing and polo which require a lot of resources – a boat and a horse respectively – golfers just need a set of golf clubs, which are reasonably affordable these days. Bearing this in mind, retirement gifts for golfers and aspiring ones are more easily thought of.

Personally made retirement gifts to personalize golfing equipment is quite an easy task as you could easily make it personal by embroidering such items as home made golf club pouches, and caddy covers. These can be knitted that is if you are into knitting or any similar craft which may require different materials.

A good idea is to think about the fashions of golfing which means to focus on the things worn by golfers. You may even be able to set a new trend in golfing apparel by using your lively imagination and an interesting design for your retiree.

Common gifts. The most usual way of buying a retirement gift for golfers is to go to the closest sports shop and get your retiree something sold there. It may sound a bit impersonal to give the retiree a commercially made gift, but then this may actually be really useful, if the retiree is still a beginner golfer – you might want to get him a set of golf clubs as it is the basic requirement to be able to play golf.

Moreover, you may find some more accessories there that your retiree golfer still needs, but then perhaps you could also use your imagination to think about what things can be made to enhance the golfing equipment he may already have.

Shop bought golfing equipment is handy too, eg, you could make your retiree feel professional, giving him a set of famous golf clubs, making him look like a pro.

Gags and Jokes The fun part of choosing to give a gag gift instead is the humour such items can create. It also adds to the lighter side of the golf-playing retiree’s party and his friends will be able to join in with smiles, laughs and jokey comments too.

The joke gift should be chosen quite carefully as the gag gift may represent a sensitive matter for the retiree, especially if he is still a beginner. Gag gift for golfers may be misunderstood and hinder their golfing progress if they are disturbed by the idea represented by the gag present you have given to them.

However, for veteran players who already know the game well, the gift of a good gag present on their retirement day would be quite funny as they would see golfing not only as a way to relieve stress but to actually just have some fun as well.

People ought to see retirement gifts for golfers as just a simple method of encouraging your golfing friend to appreciate the funny side of life after his career has ended.

Enjoy yourself if you are going to or planning a Golfer’s Retirement Party, however if you want to get a better understanding of retirement, please go to our web site Retirement Planning. This article, Retirement Gifts For Golfers has free reprint rights.
