Protecting Children With Mental Health Problems

Who are the predators? Predators are Cyber Stalkers, serial killers/rapists, rapists, paedophiles, women beaters, child abusers, thieves and so on. Predators often have mental problems that keep them from functioning properly in normal society. Children with mental illnesses are often the victims of these predators, and sometimes children with mental disorders are the predators themselves. In fact, the distributor of one of the most serious viruses online came from an eighteen-year old from England.

Dangers mental disorders: Not everyone with a mental disorder is a danger to society. In general, predators with mental illnesses are the victims of sociopathic, psychopathic and anti-social disorders, oppositional defiance, conduct control disorders, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorders (BPD), and psychosis. While there are a few other mental illnesses that present a threat to our society, this is a list of the most common potential dangers that wait on the streets and on the Internet.

How to save a child with mental disorders from dangers : Never treat your child as if he/she has a mental illness. Treat your child as special, yet avoid treating the child as if he/she is mentally ill, since a lot of mentally ill patients are extremely intelligent. Teach your child the same rules that other children abide by and stick to the rules. Do not leave room for leniency when danger is present. Teach your child respect by showing respect yourself.

Children with dangerous mental illnesses will often want to watch pornography, violent images, content, and so forth. This makes it harder as a parent to defend your child. However, it is important that you lay down the rules. Never put yourself in danger while enforcing these rules, since some children with serious problems can be violent.

If the child refuses to listen to you, bring the police in and make sure that they do their job to help you enforce the rules. You may pay court fees and go through headaches, but I promise you it will benefit you in the end. As a mother raising two boys with dangerous mental diseases, I can tell you it isn’t simple, but it can be done.

Children with mental illnesses often have brilliant minds that can often get past any parental controls and will do so without you even knowing. Take extra time than normal to monitor your child’s behaviour online. Teach your child that giving out personal details is restricted and encourage them to ask your permission when considering divulging name, phone number or other details online.

Allow your child to take some responsibility and always encourage your child to participate in family discussions that involve them. Furthermore, encourage the child to be safety conscious by asking them to report any crime committed against them.

One of the most difficult things you’ll ever have to do while raising a child with mental health issues is teaching him/her to stay away from violent images and pornography. It is next to impossible to keep them clear of this trash. Still, it can be done if you set a good example for the child to follow.

It is vital that you keep talking and listening to your child. Allow your child to express concerns, opinions, ideals, theories et cetera without demeaning the child. You will be amazed at the wisdom children with some mental illnesses have, if you will only listen to them.

The best advice I can give you for dealing with children with major mental disorders, such as psychopathy, is to seek help and stand firm. For more child safety tips for children with mental disorders seek advice from a qualified professional.

Note: Children learn what they see and hear.

Child Safety Online

What can we say about the world children live in these days? Sexed-up television, pornographic Internet sites and videos and violent board games. A world lowering its standards, values, and morals each day, surrounds our children.

What is even worse is that we cannot use Parental Controls any more to keep our children away from websites of an adult nature. Children nowadays are advanced in technology, and sometimes more so than their parents. How can we protect our children against online dangers? How can we as parents provide safety for our children, while battling the corruption going on worldwide?

Parental Controls are available on most types of Internet software, yet today, children are skilled at by-passing these Parental Controls. So, what can we do? We can guard our kids by monitoring their time spent on the Internet closely.

How to use parental controls: It depends on which Internet provider you have, however, I will write only of the Internet providers I know about, since not all programs are the same. To use AOL Parental Controls, you will have to go to ‘Safety’ on the toolbar and click on ‘Parental Controls’.

Once you arrive there, you will see a drop-down list of available usernames. Search for your child’s username and click on it. You will see a popup window appear. Click on ‘Edit Web Control’ and then click ‘Kids Only’, and close. Now your child is guarded against websites that hold potential dangers.

Chat rooms can be serious dangers to children, since anyone can go into these rooms. Often predators frequent these areas, so as to entice children into a web of danger. In the AOL program, click on ‘Safety’ and then click on ‘Parental Controls’.

In the same way, click on the ‘Edit IM Controls’, ‘Edit E-mail Controls’, and ‘Edit Chat Control’ and follow the same steps as you did to establish the ‘Parental Controls’.

It is wise to set up passwords. Having passwords will offer additional protection to your child. However, do not give the child the passwords, because this will give the child control over the Internet connection, and the child might even reset the controls.

It is also wise to activate your ‘Popup Controllers’ too, since if you do not turn on the controls, pop ups could carry something that will corrupt your system or popup adult content, which your child will see if online. You can go into ‘AOL Safety’ at the toolbar to set these popup controls.

If you use Internet Explorer; open a page. Click on ‘Tools’ at the top menu, then click ‘Popup Blocker’ and then click ‘Popup Blocker Settings’. Read the details carefully and set the program at medium. Medium is the norm and will block most pop ups. If you put the settings higher than medium, you could find it difficult to open websites for browsing.

Some of the dangers posed to children online include: Internet Porn; Child Porn; Child Sexual Abuse; Mobile Porn; and more. As you can see, your child is at serious risk, and if you want to master safety, you have to monitor, and take the steps to safeguard your child against online dangers.

According to recent surveys, students have encountered sexual malpractices through webcams, instant messengers, and mobile phones. Further studies show that pornographic websites are making more profit than each of CBS, ABC, and NBC television channels each year. The surveys say that the largest group that views porn sites are children and that these children are typically between the ages of twelve and seventeen.

The statistics showed that around 74% of the porn sites had unmonitored banners, while another 66% of the sites did not issue adult content warnings. Another 11% of the sites did not have sexually explicit content warnings, and 25% mousetrapped the visitors, by not allowing them to leave the sites. Only 3% of the websites out of more than 14 millions adult sites requested adult permission for minors. Protect your child now!

Lake Fishing.

Lake fishing is very akin to river fishing, or slow-flowing river fishing anyway. The kinds of fish in rivers and lakes tend to be the identical, which means that the equipment, bait and lures will be the identical as well, although you might want a longer fishing rod, say, a beach-casting rod to cast your bait further out into the lake. Lake fish will regularly mature to a larger size than river fish, so your line should be stronger too.

Lake fish traditionally been classed under three general categories. To be exact, game fish, food fish, and bait fish. Bass, trout, pike, pickerel, muskellunge, perch, etc., are recognized as game fish because of their sporting importance. Carp, suckers, some of the catfish, yellow perch, etc., are considered food fish.

This latter group is not considered to furnish the sport that the so-called game fish do, but they do have a genuine financial and sporting value. The third kind are the minnows and tiddlers that can be used as bait for the first two classes.

It is not easy to descibe the right technique to cast long distances, but it does come nuturally to rather a lot of anglers. However, if casting does not come easily to you, you will have to watch other lake or beach anglers. If you are not happy doing that, you will be able to find a video on the issue. However, the best way to learn how to cast is to go down to the beach , watch an expert at work and attempt to do the same.

Nonetheless, lake fishing is enormous fun and the novice will quickly master the correct technique of lake fishing. Therefore, I have placed some handy tips here to help you learn lake fishing more rapidly.

i]. Aim to adopt a smooth, whip-like cast. However, if you crack the whip too hard, you will certainly shake off a great deal of bait, flies or lures..

ii]. Timing is the all-significant issue in both the back cast and forward cast.

iii]. Study the habits of the fish that live in the lake that you propose to fish. All fish have both similar and dissimilar habits, so either obtain a book or video or join a club to find out more.

iv]. The majority of fish like some type of protection, either for themselves or because their prey will like it there. Be careful of weeds, reeds and submerged logs or you will lose heaps of line and tackle..

v]. As I mentioned before, lake fish have a propensity to be bigger, as food is copious and there is heaps of room. A large bass, for instance, can easily weigh 10-12 lbs, so make sure that your rod and line are up to the task. A rod of seven feet six inches to eight feet in length can take these sizes of fish.

Lake fishing is not so really different from other types of fishing, so if you put a little energy into learning the methods and fish concerned in lake fishing, you will soon master the art and become an expert at lake fishing.

Swimming Pool Safety For Children

Building a swimming pool in your house or garden can be a fantastic way to have fun for yourself and indeed your whole family. It is also a great way to keep fit. However, despite that, it can also be very dangerous if you have children around. If you can, you ought to wait until your children are at least five years old or more until you put a swimming pool on your property. On the other hand, if you already have a swimming pool, there are ways that you can safe-guard your children.

One thing you should always remember is to never, ever, allow your children to be alone near your pool. Children tend to be drawn to water and all it takes is a second for them to fall into the swimming pool. If you and your children are at your pool side and you have to leave the area for a second, you should always take your children with you.

To be on the safe side, you must always ensure that you have loads of safety equipment around your pool at all times. Safety gear is essential to have on the poolside, as they could save the life of a child or in fact, anyone else who can’t swim.

You should invest in a shepherd’s crook as well, because you can employ it to drag someone out of the water. Having a telephone at your pool is also a wise investment, as you can quickly call for help in the event of an emergency.

If you don’t already have a fence around your pool you should think about making one. A fence is a great way to keep children from your pool. If you have a protective fence up, you won’t have to worry about little children falling in, while you are away from the pool. When you put your fence up, you should always make sure that it’s at least 6 foot high, with a locking gate. This way, no one can get into the pool without a key, which you have to keep with you at all times.

You should learn artificial respiration too. Even though you hopefully will not ever have to use it. It is always good to know CPR in the event of someone falling in your pool that is unable to swim. Whenever you have children you know can’t swim at your pool, you should always stay within reach of them, so you can react instantly if they fall in. A minute can be all it takes to save someone’s life.

Always bear in mind that a swimming pool is for having fun in, although you should always think in terms of safety first too. Once you have finished enjoying your pool for the day, make sure that you lock up the poolside well – and padlock the gate tight so no one can get in too.

Fly Fishing 101

The purpose of this article is to assist the beginner fly fishing. The terms used and the basic practice employed in fly fishing may be unknown to the beginner at fly fishing, so we will start from the very beginning. Therefore, if you are a beginner fly fishing person, please read on in order to become acquainted with fly fishing.

The instruments needed for fly fishing are usually called tackle, but if you want to be more specific about the sort of instruments you need, you can tack on the words “fly fishing”. Therefore, you get the phrase: “fly fishing tackle”. Fly fishing tackle, or gear, fundamentally comprises artificial flies, a fly rod, a fly reel and fly line. The set-up is: the fly is attached to the line, which is wound around the reel, which is affixed to the rod or pole, which is used to cast the fly or other bait.

To make it easier to cast the fly as far as required from the angler, the line needs to be a little weightier than the other types of fishing line, because a weight is used in other kinds of fishing to achieve the same result. Also, the artificial flies are available in all kinds of shapes, sizes and colours to look like real, live flies, depending on the species of fish the angler hopes to catch.

Generally speaking, an artificial fly is made of hair, plastic, feathers, fabric, fur and many other kinds of material in order to ensure the flies resemble, as closely as possible, the insect or fly most commonly eaten by the particular sort of fish in that particular month or at that time of the day. This means that each fishing spot requires that you choose a definite kind of artificial fly that will look like the insects living in the area where your desired species of fish swim. Therefore, a kind of fly used in one area of the country may not be as successful as you’d expect in another.

There are variations in the classification of flies too. They fall into two basic overall categories, which are referred to as ‘attractive’ and ‘imitative’. The imitative artificial lures resemble real flies, while the attractive lures only rely on colour or the reflection of light in order to attract fish without necessarily looking like the fish’s natural prey.

Further sub-classifications are then used to sub-divide artificial fly fishing lures into: a] dry (looking like grasshoppers, dragonflies, etc. which float on or near the surface of the water); b] sub-surface (resembling larvae, pupae) and c] wet (imitating leeches and minnows and other small fish or fry).

The biggest distinguishing feature between fly fishing and non-fly fishing is that fly fishing depends to a great extent on the weight of the line to get the artificial fly to that section of the water where the fish are located, probably at a distance from the shore. The line is often camouflaged and hollow, so that it will float.

Non-fly fishing relies rather on the attached weight, usually made of lead, to draw the line off the reel and carry it forward to the right spot, where the weight will also take the bait or lure down to the feeding fish.

Is Deep Sea Fishing A Good Family Sport?

Deep sea fishing is a well-known great sport that a lot of families enjoy together. Deep sea fishing is a sport that can create for you and your family tremendous experiences and unforgettable memories that will last for a lifetime. The amount of family bonding in such a natural environment is simply indescribable.

If you’re a novice to this thrilling pastime, then there are some things that you need to think about before you begin a deep sea fishing trip. It really is just one big adventure for you and your family, however, you should consider a few things first of all to make sure that your trip is successful. Other than not forgetting to take your (waterproof) camera for those thrilling photos, there are a few things that you should think about before making any plans at all.

Reckoning Time: Are They Really Capable? First off, you must take an honest look at the abilities and age of your family. Lets be honest about it: you won’t be able to get the most out of a deep sea fishing trip, if your children are infants or toddlers. If you’re trying to decide what kind of excursion to make, deliberating on these factors is very important, because the sea is a dangerous place.

This would be an important factor, even if you are thinking of using the services of a charter boat, since most boating companies have set age limits. Generally speaking, the lower age limit usually starts at about eight years old. You should understand that companies set these kinds of rules to guarantee your safety.

Additionally, you should consider how long you want to stay on the water. Most inexperienced fishermen would rather half-day trips, because they are less tiring and yet still enjoyable for the whole family. On the other hand, experienced anglers would definitely rather an overnight trip.

However, regardless how long you have been fishing, you should remember that your family’s physical comfort could affect the overall enjoyment of everyone else on the trip. Factors such as temperament and age are important factors in how your family is able to adjust to a sojourn on a boat at sea, where it could get quite rough.

Be Conscious of Distance: another important consideration is how far away your preferred fishing location is from your house. The fishing packages available can vary greatly, depending on the charter company.

This means that the conditions and provisions that they offer on the boat will also differ. If you going to be travelling a large distance just to go fishing, you might be better off purchasing a package that is ‘all inclusive’, because it will provide you with everything you’ll need for the fishing voyage.

All inclusive packages such as these are usually quite hard to find, and naturally, they are far more expensive than normal day trip charter packages. An average charter package usually provides the bait and tackle and if you need a license, some packages include it, while some can charge extra for it.

Get to Know The Terms and Conditions: In general, charter boat skippers ask you to take your own hats, sunshades, raincoats, sun block, medications for motion sickness and everything else that you consider is important to take. Ensure that you are clothed appropriately with a number of warm layers, since it is far colder on the water than on land and you can always take something off.

Also, most of the day charter trip packages require you to take your own food. If this is the case, you should plan accordingly. Try to take items of food that are easy on your stomach, just in case the seas are a bit rough.

Home Schooling and Young Kids

In recent years, home schooling has become extremely popular especially among the middle and upper-middle class families. There have been many arguments before about home schooling. Experts claim that there are pros and cons in home schooling but it seems that the former outweigh the latter and therefore, a lot of families are now selecting home schooling over the traditional schools.

Cultures vary enormously and relationships within the family are affected by culture too. In some cultures, family bonds are quite strong, but there are also those who don’t have very good relationships with other family members at all. However, through home schooling, family bonds can be improved. Parents will spend enough time with their children because of the home schooling program and the children will have to listen to their parents as well. Communication is much improved and both parties will learn about the importance of both speaking and listening.

A lot of families prefer home schooling because of its diversity. However, since the cost of home education is a bit more than traditional schools, the financial position of the family is very important. However, even without considering the financial factor, many parents will still go for home schooling, because it can ensure their kids’ safety. Public schools often have dangerous situations that can influence children terribly, but if they are in a home schooling program, they can avoid these situations and their parents will be there to supervise them.

Instead of enrolling the kids at a public school, many parents would prefer home schooling because the learning environment in public schools is not that conducive. In public schools, very young pupils may experience difficulties that can affect them socially, mentally, and academically for a long time. Experts that have conducted studies, claim that children learn better in a safe environment surrounded by loved ones. Another advantage of home schooling is that children can learn according to their ability. You can’t just deliver a new lesson, if the previous one hasn’t been learned yet. It may take longer, but the results are better.

As stated previously, home schooling is a tad more costly. However, if you think that you can cut down your child’s educational expenses, you’re probably wrong. Home schooling expenses are almost the equal to those of traditional schools. However, if you participate in the forums of the parents of home-schoolers, you will discover that there are ways to cut down costs. Naturally, you will have to spend on the resource materials, computer, and internet, but you can also visit outside resources like cultural meetings, public libraries and many others.

You will get even more cost-saving notions, if you contact other parents. The Internet provides endless opportunities and with a bit of research, you can surely come up with ways to ease the costs. If you don’t want to pay for tutors, then you will have to learn the lessons as well. You have already studied the various subjects in your kids’ educational program, so you only need to review them. You can get further learning material online or the bookshop and later on, teach your children.

Therefore, it is plain to see, that home schooling is definitely the best option, particularly, if your child is still quite young. So, it all depends on you and your child, whether they decide to continue this kind of education until they graduate for college.

Interesting Facts about Astronomy

Astronomy is an interesting science to most people because it is filled with loads of fun astronomy facts. Everything from the size and temperature of our own star, the Sun, to the make-up of distant planets has been established. All of this information can be retold to entertain and enlighten your friends.

The Sun is a great font for astronomy fun facts. Our own star, which supplies us with all our heat and light is between 91 and 94.5 million miles from Earth. It’s not that nobody has measured the precise distance, but rather because the Earth revolves around the Sun in an ellipse, an uneven, orbit, so the distance varies depending on where the Earth is situated in that orbit.

The Sun is only an average size star, yet it’s size is another terrific source of astronomy fun facts. As average as it is, it accounts for about 98% of all the matter in our solar system. Even with the huge planet of Jupiter on our side, we’re still a tiny 2% of non Sun stuff.

It would take the diameter of about 100 Earths to stretch across this average Sun. The solar winds created by the Sun extends to about 50 times the distance from the Earth to the Sun. Or put another way, those solar winds go out about 50 AU’s, with an AU being the distance from the Sun to the Earth. That’s quite amazing, isn’t it?.

How about astronomy fun facts that don’t have anything to do with the Sun then? What about our Moon? It’s the only non-Earth object that man has walked on so far. And one man actually travelled to the Moon but never left it. Dr. Eugene Shoemaker really liked the Moon but was rejected as an astronaut. After his death, he was cremated and his ashes were sprinkled over the Moon by the Lunar Prospector spacecraft in 1999.

There are many more astronomy fun facts about the Moon. It’s the site of what may become the oldest footprint known to man. Neil Armstrong’s giant leap for mankind left a print in the Moon dust that will likely still be there in 10 million years time.

Lots of people, in fact about 13% of those asked in 1988, still believed the Moon is made of cheese. And finally, the suits worn by the Moon-walking astronauts weighed 180 pounds on Earth but only 30 pounds on the Moon, because of the Moon’s reduced gravity. Talk about losing weight, eh?

Astronomy fun facts aren’t limited to our close astronomical neighbours. Looking at stars is like looking into the past. Some of the stars we see today in the night sky are so far away that their light takes a million years to reach Earth. Some of the stars you see may really be images of stars a million years old that aren’t even there any more. There are over 1 x 10 ^22 stars in the universe. That’s a 1 followed by 22 zeros. The number is really quite awesome.

There are thousands of astronomy fun facts that we could relate. But, unfortunately, this article can not be that long. So, please, walk out there at night, look upwards and learn more about astronomy for yourself.

The Razor Kick Scooter Series

The Razor kick scooter is the present-day counterpart of the type of scooter that has been about for 50 years or more. In actuality, kids have almost certainly been fixing boards to wheels ever since scrap wheels became available. As with those classic scooters, the Razor kick scooter is propelled forward by foot power. That is, you put one foot on the board and push forward, or in other words kick back on the ground with the other.

This way of propulsion makes the Razor kick scooter an idyllic form of transportation, exercise and enjoyment for kids of all ages. In fact, Razor do not advise a Razor kick scooter for the under fives unless supervised and declare in their instruction manual:

“Children under age eight (8) should ride with adult supervision at all times. All children and preteens should ride with adult guidance at all times”.

This appears pretty strict to me and is probably an instance of over-vigilance because of the litigious society we live in. Just try suggesting to a twelve-year that you have to employ guidance on all of his or her trips!

Having said that the Razor kick scooter comes in roughly seven different guises. There is the Kiddie Kick scooter for the under fives. It is constructed of tough plastic and has a third wheel for greater stability.

Then there is the ‘A’ series of Razor kick scooter: the A, A2, A3 and AW. These models are roughly equal to a child’s development in size, skill and experience, although the highest recommended weight for all three models of Razor kick scooter is 65 kilos or 143 lbs.

The Razor kick scooter Pro is a leap up in know-how and so has more capabilities. It can be used for extreme sport and will carry a rider weighing up to 100 kilos or 220 lbs.

Last, but not least, is the Cruiser Razor kick scooter. It will take 79 kilos (175 lbs of weight and has larger wheels as it is meant for relaxed cruising about. The larger wheels signify that you won’t be aware of any bumpy terrain beneath you while you are on this Razor kick scooter.

All of these Razor kick scooters share comparable characteristics. All of these models of the Razor kick scooter are of very tough construction and all but the Razor Kiddie Kick scooter are manufactured of high-grade aluminium and are built to last.

These Razor kick scooters have extendable steering rods, which means that they can be pulled up to grow with your child or can be shared by children of different sizes. They also share a tough braking system which is operated on the rear wheel, rendering them ultra-safe for operation in the vicinity of pedestrians.

A Razor kick scooter begins at about $40 and so is an inexpensive method for you to ensure that that your child gets frequent exercise, gets out from behind his computer, gets some fresh air and sunlight and learns about civility while having fun being mobile. Apart from all these advantages, a Razor kick scooter will give your child affectionate reminiscences to look back on for the rest of his or her being.
