Music For Christmas

Christmas is a very extraordinary time of year for Christians and particularly for Christians living in Christian countries. A large part of the atmosphere at Christmas is created by Christmas music. Christmas music has traditionally consisted mainly of carols and hymns, but some pop songs have become firm favourites in the repertoire of music for Christmas.

This special blend of traditional Christmas carols and pop music made especially for Christmas makes the month of December immediately identifiable.

Obviously, the kind of Christmas music that you will hear the most often depends on where you go and what stations you listen to. If you listen to stations that specialize in well-liked music for the young, you will hear very little Christmas music.

If your taste is for so-called ‘easy listening’, you will get to hear ‘White Christmas’ by Bing Crosby a number of times a day, because it is said to be the most well-liked Christmas music of all time. You will also hear many songs by Cliff Richard, who has been bringing out Christmas ‘specials’ for decades.

Christmas specials are records brought out with a Christmas message of peace and goodwill. Artists who release these specials are attempting to be the number one best selling artist over the profitable Christmas period.

The number one record over the Christmas period will be played millions of times over the airwaves and in discotheques making bags of money for the singer and the song writer in royalties.

Classical radio stations will play traditional Christmas music such as Handel’s ‘Messiah’ and choral renditions of popular carols and nativity songs like ‘Away in a Manger’, ‘Silent Night’ and ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’. This sort of song is also sung in schools, churches and Christmas parties all over the country – every western Christian country.

Well-liked time-honoured children’s’ Christmas songs are ones like ‘Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer’, ‘On the First Day of Christmas’ and ‘Good King Wenseslas’. Then there are songs from the Fifties and Sixties which were sung in renowned Christmas films. Songs like ‘Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire’ and ‘I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus’.

There is, in fact, a colossal selection of Christmas music available, but many songs are repeated over and over again ad nauseam. On the one hand, most people find it just lovely to hear a couple of Christmas songs every day, but on the other hand, most people are happy when the Christmas music ceases on Boxing Day.

This is because the modern trend has been to start playing Christmas music on December the first or even late November. A month of this music repeated endlessly becomes mind-numbing. Everybody loves the Christmas holiday season and the parties, celebrations and joviality that goes with the season, but the Christmas music goes on for too long for the majority of people.

Everybody ought to have a selection of Christmas music to play over the festive season, but remember, when you have friends visiting, not to over play these records as everybody will have heard them dozens of times already that day.

Some Of The Best Church Fund Raisers

All buildings need maintenance and this includes churches. In the past, it was not so much of a difficulty as it is today, because the congregations were larger, so if everybody chipped in, the maintenance could be done.

These days, the congregations are smaller,so donations have to be higher. The price of maintenance has also gone up substantially. One of the main methods of topping up the maintenance fund is by fund raising, which involves holding fund-raising events.

It appears that every charitable organization is having the same problem, because in an average sized town, there are often a dozen fund-raising events every Saturday and Sunday. There are church fund-raisers, scout and youth club fund-raisers, school, YMCA and Women’s Institute fund raisers all battling to be the foremost event of the weekend.

This amount of competition makes it difficult to decide which sort of event to hold. In this article, we will take a look at some of the most popular kinds of fund-raising events – perhaps the kinds of events that will raise the most money for your charity’s building or your favourite good cause.

You could distribute catalogue order books. Some catalogue order books are non profit-making, which means that the catalogue company does not make a profit so that your church can. These catalogues are usually available only to churches, but some schools run them too. If you do not want to step on anybody’s toes, you could run your church’s catalogue only during the school’s summer holidays.

You could hold cookie dough sales. If every household in the congregation donated two pounds of cookie dough, the kids could go out and sell it on Saturday and Sunday mornings. This works well a few days before a big holiday like Thanksgiving or Independence Day. it also works quite well throughout the summer.

You could hold a dinner dance with guest speakers. The dinner could also have a theme – a different one (or none) each time, until you find the most popular: Barn Dance, Viennese, Cajun, Gypsy et cetera. The food would match the theme and so would the music. The speaker should not be the vicar or the charity’s president, but should be someone off the guest speaking circuit – someone who can bring the house down with humorous anecdotes and stories.

Do not make them cheap, aim to double your money and invite local business to purchase a table of six or eight for their star employees and customers. If you go down this path, you could also organize a boxing event with dinner jackets and a five course meal.

Rope in the local amateur boxing club to help set up a series of bouts with a neighbouring town and offer them 20% or whatever. They may do it free for the free publicity or they could hold the raffle (the prize could be the winner’s boxing gloves signed by all the boxers).

You could hold a day out with a difference. You could have a travelling fair erect its rides (but pay a rent for the privilege) and you could have stalls and small ‘cafes’. You could hire a bouncy house for kids to go moonwalking (and charge for it), but what would make it really different would be if the local amateur dramatic society put on a suitable play for you.

I do not know what you would call suitable: it could be a classic, a comedy or even a pantomime, but obviously you would have to give them time to learn their lines, so you would have to plan well in advance. They hold outdoor plays like this in rural Thailand and they are hugely popular for miles around.

What Good Do Christian Supplies Do For Me?

I have not always been a Christian. In fact, years ago I really didn’t see the point of any religious faith. It probably has mostly to do with the fact that my family is not Christian and never raised me with any sort of religious beliefs. I guess you could say that I was a lost soul.

That all changed when I was introduced to a certain church of which my friend was a member. This person was my neighbor for a few years but I didn’t really know anything about their Christian faith. I saw them leave to go somewhere every Sunday, but it didn’t occur to me that they were going to church.

One day I was feeling curious, so I strolled on over to my neighbors house to ask them some questions about where they went on Sundays and what they believed. All my questions were answered better than I could have hoped for. I found out many things about Christianity that made a big impact on my mind. Just a few months after that, I decided that I wanted to be of the same Christian faith as my neighbors.

It was shortly afterwards that I decided to take the plunge and become a Christian. To date, that has been the most important decision I have made in my life. I have been exposed to the most wonderful things since I have converted. They are all things that help me have a better outlook on life.

As many others have probably felt, I have felt this distinct desire since I converted to share what I know with my family and friends. I have this sudden intense desire to make my home full of only the best Christian products. That presents a problem though, because you can’t buy Christian resources at the corner store.

Luckily for me, there are a large number of Christian stores that sell things for people like me. They have products for children and adults. They have Jesus art and church bulletins and anything else I could ever be in need of. I visited my local Christian resource store a few weeks ago and I was pleasantly surprised at all they had.

But they also have Christian supplies online. I know that when I am in a bind and I can’t find what I need at my local store, I can go online to find whatever I need. In fact, many times you will be exposed to a whole new class of items that you didn’t know about before.

I can say that my life is different in a very good way since I converted to being a Christian. Things are different now. My home is the kind of place where everyone loves to come because they have access to all sorts of great Christian material. And to think that it all started with my neighbors introducing me to their church.

Finding affordable and quality church supplies doesn’t have to be a tedious task. Save time by shopping for Christian resources online and find everything you need for your next service. Or shop for supplies for personal use.
