Controlling Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are probably the most ghastly of household pests in many peoples’ eyes. Cockroaches are bad enough, but they do not suck on you. Mosquitoes suck blood and are annoying, but we accept them more than bed bugs. But bed bugs suck your blood when you are asleep and then mess in your bed as a thank you note.

Luckily, these insects do not carry any human diseases that we are conscious of, so they are quite ‘safe’ in that regard, whereas there are quite a couple of deadly diseases that you can acquire from mosquitoes such as malaria, dengue fever and yellow fever amongst others. Still, the majority of of us prefer mosquitoes to bed bugs.

If your home is infested with these bugs, you will surely want to get rid of them, so you will have to know something concerning the lifestyle of these creatures. Bed bugs like to conceal themselves during the day time in cracks, crevices, torn wallpaper and linoleum, broken plaster, a ripped mattress and stacked clothing, books, magazines etc..

The popular belief common until a few decades ago was that bed bugs only liked dirty households, but this is not true. Cockroaches like to scavenge for dropped food as do ants, but bed bugs only consume blood and do not even have mouth-parts to consume fallen food if they were famished.

Therefore, bed bugs do not need to live in a slovenly house, merely in one that is run-down, poorly taken care of or cluttered. If you want to clear up an infestation of bed bugs, the first thing to do is wash all your clothing in hot water or dry-cleaning fluid and then store them in sealed plastic bags.

The next step is to repair anywhere they could be hiding. Stick back or replace any tattered wallpaper and seal off any loose woodwork such as skirting boards and architraves with a line of mastic or filler. Seal the woodwork top and bottom, so that any bed bugs hiding in there will not be able to get out again. This saves attempting to kill them.

Put away all books, piles of newspapers, toys and general clutter and inspect your furniture for wobbly joints. For instance, if a chair or table is a bit ricketty, tighten the screws or mastic the joints together. Plug nail and screw holes with filler or mastic.

Roll up your carpets and check the floor boards. Cork the joints, fill screw holes and check the bead of mastic at the bottom of the skirting boards.

Check the framework of your bed and repair as mentioned above. Are there red or brown smears on your mattress? if so, they could be hiding in your mattress. Sew up any tears and put the mattress in a mattress cover which can be zipped closed in order to trap any bugs inside. Otherwise, perhaps it is time to replace it.

Regular pesticides do not have much effect on bed bugs, so be careful what you purchase. You need something that has an abrasive element in it. Some use finely ground up glass, which may pose a health hazard to you or your pets.

Diatomaceous Earth is safer. Sprinkle or spray it under your carpets and about the base of the skirtings, where bed bugs like to run. Relay your carpets and steam clean them.

How To Remove Bed Bugs From Your Clothes

Bed bugs used to be a part of eveyone’s daily life before the Second World War – or should that be ‘a part of everyone’s nocturnal life’? For hundreds of years, people merely grinned and bore it; they had to because there were no effectual methods of getting rid of them.

They lived in the stored clothing, the furniture, the bedding and the houses of the rich and poor alike and because houses were located so close together, families were larger and people were in and out of each others houses, you could not eradicate a bed bug infestation for long.

Then came the bombing of European cities in the Second World War 1939-1945 and many inner cities were unsafe, so the authorities decided to take the opportunity to flatten the inner city slums and start again. An equivalent programme was began in America, but not because of devastation.

The authorities pulled down hundreds of millions of houses and made billions of rats, mice, bed bugs, fleas and other nasties homeless. In fact, rat poison and a new wonder insecticide, DDT, were used widely in the clean up. By the end of the Forties or during the Fifties, bed bugs were just about eradicated from the Western World.

The Baby Boomer generation was the first one never to have been troubled by bed bugs. This joyful situation lasted until the mid-Nineties, when increased long haul travel and increased immigration permitted bed bugs to hitch lifts back to the West. These unwelcome hitch hikers usually came back on clothing that had been packed away in suitcases.

And so here we are today, in a state of affairs where the West’s major inner cities have a bed bug issue of epidemic proportions. Bed bugs are being passed around from person to person on all forms of public transport but especially buses, trains and taxis and anywhere where individuals congregate, but especially hotels, cinemas and waiting rooms.

So, here are a few tips on how to avoid infesting your home with bed bugs. If you stay in hotels a few nights or one night at a time, merely unpack what you need to at any one time. In other words, live out of your suitcase.

If you are on a longer vacation, by all means, unpack everything, but keep your suitcase closed and have all your clothes boil washed, dry cleaned or tumble-dried on ‘HOT’ before you repack them to go home.

If this cannot be done because of the sort of cloth, examine all the seams, hems, pockets, cuffs and collars and blow them with the hair-dryer on ‘HOT’. The hair-dryer is not anywhere near as effective, but all stages of a bed bug’s life cycle are killed by seven minutes exposure to temperatures above 45C or 115F.

If you cannot heat-treat your clothing before you leave the hotel, seal them up in plastic bags and treat them when you get home – preferably in a laundrette or dry cleaners.

What do you do about your overcoat, if you mix with people every day on the bus or at work? This is a tough one. Bed bugs are resilient to all forms of insect killer, which is why we are having this epidemic, so you will literally have to examine your overcoat every time you come home or get one that you can put in the tumble-dryer every night.

One bed bug can lay 300 eggs and last for a year without feeding, so you cannot know that you have not got bed bugs, you can only say that you have not seen any – yet.

The History Of The Cushion

In American phraseology, the words ‘cushion’ and ‘pillow’ are practically synonymous, but in the remainder of the English speaking world, a pillow is used on a bed for supporting the head and a cushion is used on elsewhere for supporting other parts of the body. A pillow is normally much larger than a cushion nowadays.

The cushion and pillow were most likely first used by wealthy Asian men to rest on. They would probably be referred to as throw cushions nowadays. However, we are going back so far in history that dyes and textiles were very expensive, so pillows and cushions were only for the wealthy and the patterns were so intricate that they became pieces of art in themselves.

Needlework became a skilled profession as did weaving. Cushions were large sacks or cases filled with feathers, hair, wool, straw or something similar. These days they are more likely to be filled with man-made fibres such as polyester. Down is the most expensive filling especially down from the eider duck.

Due to international trade, the concept of the cushion started moving westward and had reached Egypt by the time of the Pharaohs. Cushions have been found in ancient Egyptian tombs. By the Middle Ages, cushions were to be seen in all the royal palaces of Europe. Cushions were still regarded as representing wealth.

The cushions of the royal palaces were substantial enough to sit in, a bit like modern beanie bags, and even started replacing traditional chairs. In those days, cushions were very large sacks made of leather, many of which had needlework patterns on them.

Cushions were also used in churches for the wealthy to kneel on when saying their prayers. These special but small cushions were called carreaux because they were square (from the French).

Nowadays cushions are everyday items because they are much cheaper. Most cushions in the West are 17 inches by 17 inches and the reason for this is the traditional size of a roll or bolt of fabric. A roll of cloth is traditionally 54 inches wide, so it could be cut into three pieces of 18 inches, allowing for seams, this allows the manufacturer to make a 17 inch cushion.

Japanese cushions were much and still are, but they have a different task. In the West they are used for support, whereas in the East they are used for sitting on on the floor. In Japanese they are called ‘zabuton’ and measure 20-30 inches square by a couple of inches in thickness, which is less than a quarter of the thickness of traditional Western cushions.

Zen meditators will often sit on another special cushion called a zafu or meditation cushion, which is placed on top of the zabuton. A zafu can be round or square but is small, often merely 8-10 inches in diameter and 4-8 inches thick.

Zabuton are used in all aspects of Japanese life particularly those aspects that have religious overtones or traditions such as sumo. Spectators of the sport will sit on zabuton while watching the bouts. If there is a foul or a dispute, spectators frequently throw their zabuton into the ring in revulsion.

How Will I Recognize Bedbugs?

I presume you already know that bedbugs have made a revival in the West. Bedbugs were practically totally eradicated in western Europe, the United States and Canada in the 1950′s, but have been resurfacing in ever larger numbers since around 1995. It is assumed that this is due to more numerous foreign holidays and increased immigration..

You see, bedbugs get around by hitching a lift on our clothing and then jumping off when it gets quiet and warm enough again. The poor little creatures are actually quite shy, you know, which is why you could have a burgeoning family of them in your house long before you become bitten. And bedbugs can go for six months without having to feed.

Bedbugs are small, usually brownish beetles that look a bit banded, because of the hairs on their back. They have a long pointy beak for sucking blood and can move astonishingly quickly if disturbed. Some Individuals say that they cannot be seen with the naked eye, but this only applies to those of us with very poor eyesight. A bedbug is around the size, colour and shape or an apple pip on legs.

In fact, you may never see a bedbug in your room, but you might see remnants of its activity. If you see brown smears on your sheets, they are bedbug droppings but if you see red streaks, that is your blood. You may also see black spots, which are also droppings and hollow insect cases, which is where they have shed a skin on their way to maturity.

Those who have knowledge of bedbugs say that you do not have to see them, you can smell them. They say that, their smell is very distinctive, but you would have to speak to quite an old person to describe it for you as most individuals under 60 will not have had many dealings with bedbugs, if any at all.

Bedbug bites affect people in different ways. Some people react quite badly to the bites whilst others might scarcely notice them at all. However, most of us notice some red marks that itch. A little like flea bites.

I suppose that you are wondering how you can get rid of these little bugs by now. Well, here is the bad news – bedbugs are notoriously a problem to be rid of. In fact, if you have an infestation of bedbugs, you ought to notify your landlord and the health authorities but if you own the property yourself, you will almost certainly have to pay to get the exterminators in as pesticides and insecticides are practically useless against them.

The best way to deal with bedbugs is not to let them acquire a foothold in your premises. Most of us pick up a bedbug when on holiday, staying in a hotel at home or when using public transport or in public places like cinemas.

So, inspect your clothing, especially under the collar and in the pockets. The only surefire way of killing bedbugs is the use of heat, so if you find one on your coat, put your garments in the tumble dryer on full heat to kill the bedbug, its friends and its eggs.

Owen Jones, the writer of this piece, writes on many topics, but is currently concerned with bed bugs extermination. If you are interested in this, please visit our website now at Picture Of Bed Bugs for further information.

Doing Up The Children’s Bedroom

Are you thinking of doing up your children’s bedroom? Have they grown out of it or even wrecked it? Whatever the reason, it has to be done from time to time as your children grow up and have new needs or only require different size furniture. The first things to determine are how much you want to spend and whether you want any input from your children.

The answer to the first question, only you can know, but I would like to say that it can be great fun, a real eye-opener and a good bond-forger to have your children in on the decision-making and the redecoration too.

Well, OK, the redecoration depends on their ages, but they can help strip off the old paper even if they are too young to assist with the painting.

I will assume that you are going to ask for your children’s advice. Positively do not take them to the shop first off and hope that you will get rational answers. The best approach is to discuss what they want and then show pictures on the Internet.

take plenty of notes and make sure the kids understand that they have agreed to their choices. Similarly with the colour scheme.

Attempt to steer them away from dreary, drab, dark colours. Most kids like primary colours anyway – yellow, blue and red – so you should not have a difficulty here. Curtains and seat covers should be washable at home, not in a dry cleaners.

Try to get fire-resistant fabrics. If you are concerned about nightly accidents or simple spillages, you could get a few of mattress protection covers as well.

As far as the furniture itself goes, you should purchase the best you can afford. Check the joints and strive not to purchase anything that is nailed or stapled. You want furniture that is bolted or screwed together because it is stronger. You do not need me to tell you that children rock on chairs and bounce on beds.

If your children require a computer table, it can be a good idea to have it bracketed to the wall or floor so that it cannot be inadvertently knocked over, breaking the monitor. Substantial bean bag cushions are always a decent idea as well. They add colour, mirth and a comfortable place to read.

Children of all ages leave things lying around, so put a laundry basket in a corner somewhere and if the children are young, a toy box somewhere else. There should be cupboards and shelves, which is all that older children will need. Make certain that there are lots of them and then there can be no excuses for mess.

You may also want to supply a small dustpan and brush as a hint that you expect your children to clean up small accidents themselves. You never know, they may get the idea.

Interior Decorating Ideas For The Home

If you are considering redecorating your home, you are probably searching around for some home interior decorating ideas. Redecorating offers a great chance to express yourself by displaying your style and interests. You do this by matching colours, textiles, styles and artwork. The combinations of possibilities in home interior decorating are really endless. No two houses ever need look the same by accident.

It would be easy to redecorate and adopt any home interior decorating ideas if money were not a constraint. Therefore, the challenge for most people is how to redecorate the home within a budget. You can get home interior decorating ideas from the many interior design items on TV or by purchasing a couple of the home interior design magazines. The problem with the magazines, more so than with the TV items, is that they tend to show ideas that cost thousands of dollars.

The Net is another source of down-to-earth home interior decorating ideas that regular people can afford. The prices of the items used in the Internet displays are normally a lot more affordable as well. The Net is also a good way of comparing the various broad-swathe styles. Styles such as country, modern, traditional, Mediterranean, Provencal, minimalist et cetera.

If you like the older styles such as country, primitive, Provencal or traditional, darker, warmer colours are best. These colours go well with fabrics and old (style), wooden furniture. Wall hangings, paintings of country scenes, curtains and plenty of throw cushions are part of this style of interior design. Autumn colours go well together to produce a warm, friendly, cozy atmosphere.

Modern, minimalist and Mediterranean styles tend to use brighter colours whites and off-whites like magnolia are de rigeur. Home interior decorating ideas for these styles include a lack of clutter and plenty of open space and light. The walls must have one or two pieces of art rather than the six to ten of the older styles. leather furniture goes well here: white or black, with one contrasting throw cushion per seating place. A white cushion on a black sofa or visa-versa.

However, there is nothing wrong with you mixing these style. This often happens anyway, particularly if people give you furniture or you inherit it. if you endeavor to combination different pieces of furniture which naturally from radically different styles, you will require something to bridge the gap between them, so to speak. This can be done most easily with fabrics such as throw cushions, wall hangings such as tapestries, rugs and carpets..

Throw cushions do not all have to match. In fact, in the old days it was very unlikely that all the cushions or pillows in a room would all match, because cushions were often manufactured from off-cuts of fabric from other projects. A assortment of different throw cushions can help you blend styles quite easily. Another way, is to fill an old cabinet with more modern pieces of glass and china.

Ideas For Your Bedroom Make-Over

Have you decided that your bedroom could do with a make-over? We pass more time in our bedroom than any other room in the world, even if you work long hours in an office for your boss. When you realize this fact, it ought to become clear that you ought to have as pleasant and as comfortable a bedroom as you possibly can within the limits of your budget, naturally. There is always that wretched budget isn’t there? The best thing to do is treat the budget as only another challenge.

The first thing to do is decide what sort of bedroom you want. Do you want a sexy, French boudoir style or are you short of room so you’ll have to have a mini-office in the corner? The style people choose for their bedroom usually depends on whether they are single or married and then on whether they have children or not.

Most parents are too embarrassed to have a boudoir for a bedroom. Boudoirs tend to be for single women and practical bedrooms with a computer in the corner are for married couples with children and single men.

These are not hard and fast rules, but you may be surprised if you disagree with me. I was a decorator for our family construction firm for fifteen years and I have been in hundreds of bedrooms of all sorts of people.

Once you have settled on the style you would like, look in some home improvement magazines, watch some home remodelling programes on TV and look for suggestions and products on the Internet in order to refine your plans. The you can make up your mind precisely what you want.

Then look in your bedroom and decide on what you can use. Move the remainder of the stuff to other bedrooms, sell it or give it away. Once you have chosen your colours and fabrics, you can either begin redecorating yourself or call someone like I was in to do it for you.

Whilst you are deciding on your bedroom furniture, make certain that you provide a lot of space for you to hang your clothes up and put your stuff away. There is nothing that makes a bedroom look more untidy than clothes, laundered and unlaundered lying everywhere. If you have a tendency to just throw your used clothes off on to a chair, put a big laundry basket or box somewhere convenient.

It is the same with shoes, bags, briefcases, lunch boxes, umbrellas and all the remainder of the paraphernalia: have somewhere to put it, if at all possible behind a door. If you need to have a computer in your bedroom, so be it, but you could get a beautiful, carved hardwood screen to put in front to it.

If you do not require a new mattress, you could make your present one more luxurious with a mattress topper or even a memory foam mattress topper. Cover your bed with a beautiful eiderdown or put your duvet in a beautiful duvet cover and place half a dozen stylish throw cushions on the bed. Do not forget to colour co-ordinate the curtains as well.

How To Decorate Your Christmas Tree

As the Christmas holiday season begins to approach, a large quantity of people and their families will begin decorating their home for Christmas. While almost anything in the house can be decorated, a largest focus is sited on the Christmas tree. Since there is a good chance that you may want to purchase a tree for yourself, you might be thinking about about decorations. a lot of people put a toy train set running around the tree too these days

Perhaps, the most common ornaments put on a tree are fairy lights. Fairy lights are a set of small lights that are usually multicolored or just plain white, although various colour combinations can be purchased. Most people who put up a Christmas tree use these lights to decorate their tree. What is nice about fairy lights is that you have a wide diversity of choices when using them. For example, some lights flash to the rhythm of a tune or even play the music too.

Apart from lights, decorations are another one of the most commonly used accoutrements. Decorations come in a wide selection of sizes, shapes, and styles. In general, most ornaments are in the shape of a ball. They are normally colored red, green, silver, or gold, however, many Christmas ball decorations also come designed with messages or symbols. These ornaments are most usually suspended from tree branches using ornament hooks, yarn, or thread.

Christmas tree toppers are other items that can regularly be found on Christmas trees. While tree toppers, like all other Christmas ornaments, come in a wide variety of sizes, shapes, and styles, they are most commonly angels, stars or fairies. Other popular toppers include crosses and Santas. In addition to coming in different sizes, you will find that many Christmas tree toppers are intended to light up and some may even play a Christmas tune.

In addition to tree toppers, lights, and decorations, garland is also used on the majority of Christmas trees. In fact, it is rare to find a decorated Christmas tree that does not have tinsel on it. Garland, when used to decorate a tree, is often interlaced with the lights.

Tinsel also comes in a variety of different kinds. Popular tinsel styles include floral tinsel and beaded garland . It is also possible to find tinsel with lights already attached to it. The main purpose of such tinsel is to reduce the amount of time it takes to decorate the Christmas tree.

If you are interested in decorating your Christmas tree with lights, ornaments, tree toppers, or tinsel , you will have to buy these items, unless you are using your decorations from last Christmas or you may just have to replace the broken bits. Since all of the previously mentioned decorations are extensively used on Christmas trees, you will be able to find these at a huge quantity of retailers, both on and offline. For reasonably priced Christmas decorations, you ought to check your local dollar stores, discount stores and department stores. For the greatest assortment of Christmas tree decorations, I suggest that you try a local market near to Christmas. However, whatever you do do not forget America’s latest Yuletide tradition, a train set running around under the tree – the Polar Express

Charity Shops And Closet Clean Outs

One way of dividing up people that crosses the barriers of age, sex, religion and ethnicity is whether you are a hoarder or not. There are a great deal of hoarders, although some hoarders refer to themselves as collectors or only nostalgic.

That last sentence may be a bit unfair. Collecting can be explained away as a hobby and nostalgia can be considered a yearning for days when we were in better shape.

However, what it all comes down to for billions of households is the buildup of old junk and old clothing. My mother and her mother had decades of clothes that they were sure would come back into fashion one day.

They were probably right and it probably did, but they had to keep the stuff for twenty or thirty years and then teenagers were wearing it, not middle-aged mothers and grandmothers.

My point is that we should clear out our closets and wardrobes more frequently in order to create space and pass things on to people who can use them now rather than in twenty years time. I think that closets should be gone through once or twice a year.

Apart from seasonal stuff, if you have not worn something for months, there must be a good reason. Either you do not like it any more; you have gained weight or it does not suit you. So why not pass it on? Write it off and let someone else benefit from it before the moths do.

You could donate them to the Salvation Army, Shelter or any other charity shop or wait for your local church, school or scout brigade to hold a fund-raising bazaar or bring-and-buy sale.

This clears out room for you so that you can see the wood for the trees, permits a charity to profit from your surplus and allows someone more disadvantaged than you to wear good quality clothing at less than the retail cost.

If you have let spring cleaning drift a bit, not to worry. There are charity shops that have racks specializing in old-fashioned clothes. They call it retro and there are loads of people who enjoy wearing it.

There are also theatre and film companies scouring the secondhand clothes stores looking for period clothing. One of your old suits could be in the next Fifties remake!

However, passing your old, good quality clothing on to charity shops or specialist retro shops, whether you donate or sell them, is only one side of the coin. You can also buy from these stores.

If you have not been in a charity shop for years or think that you would not be seen dead in one, then you should go along and have a look. They are no longer the sad, amateurish places that they once were. They are run professionally and have a decent turnover of stock. They are a particularly decent source of warm winter clothing such as overcoats, so why not do everyone a favour and go and have a look sometime soon?

How To Set Up Your Coat Closet

Most people have some type of arrangement near the main entrance to their house, mostly the front door, for storing residents’ and visitors’ coats. Some houses have a simple row of hooks in the hall, whereas others have a dedicated coat closet or cloakroom.

Furthermore, most of these spaces are fairly chaotic with coats heaped on top of other coats which are heaped on top of other coats that no-one has worn for years.

You should apply the same rules to organizing this region, let’s call it a cloakroom for easy reference, as you do to your bedroom closets or wardrobes. The trick is that everything must have a place and everything should be in that place, which means that you and all the family or all the household have to know the rules.

It simply does not make for a tidy cloakroom if some folk stick to the rules while others do what they please. Let’s take an average family or household of four as another norm. Four people like this will own a coat or two each, a jacket, perhaps an umbrella and several pairs of shoes and a pair of slippers maybe.

You could install a shoe rack so that every person can store, say, three pairs of shoes per person in the cloakroom. If your shoe rack has four levels then three pairs of shoes and a pair of slippers per person. Everything else has to be stored either in the bedroom or the garage. Some footwear is seasonal, so this should not become too much of a difficulty.

Likewise with coats and jackets. You could have a row of coat hooks around the walls of the cloakroom and allocate every member of the household a certain number of hooks. (Look out for the cloakroom hooks that have a top and bottom hook – two for the space of one).

Again, all non-seasonal coats to be kept in the bedroom. One more tip here, remember to assign a row of pegs for visitors. Maybe one of the small walls of a small cloakroom could be set apart for guests.

An ideal cloakroom would have a shoe rack at the floor level or a bit higher, then a row of double coat pegs and then a shelf running around it. This shelf is important. Individuals used to wear hats a great deal more than they do now, but some people still wear gloves, scarves and shawls that they would rather not hang on a hook and others like to ride a motorbike.

Never worry, you will always find something to put on a shelf in a cloakroom even if it is just a tin of air freshener to spray around before guests arrive.

One more thing that is frequently found in cloakrooms that you should reserve space for is the vacuum cleaner. It is convenient to have a vacuum cleaner in the hall to suck up the bits of mud and rubbish that inevitably get carried or blown into the hall, but you will always have room for one in a well-organized cloakroom

Great Country Decorating Ideas

For those who live in the country decorating ideas are not hard to come by. Personally speaking, I think that a lot of my inspiration comes from the world around me. When I say that, I don’t mean that I use the most obvious aspects of the country around me, only that if you look hard enough you’ll always find a subtle mixture of country decorating ideas that you will be able to take into your own home decor.

Doing your home up with country decorating ideas is great but if you don’t make it blend in naturally with your surroundings your house will just become an eyesore intruding upon the glories of nature. Surely, you have looked at a house in the country and thought to yourself: how beautiful and serene it was, and how much you’d really like to live there?

Haven’t you ever asked yourself why this was so? Without a doubt, it was for the house’s simplicity and elegance, along with the fact that it blended in so well with its environment. If you live in the country, you’re probably unaware of what I’m talking about and you are wondering why I mention it.

Maybe you’ve lived in the country most of your life and you just don’t understand what is so wonderful about the old country decorating ideas and houses that blend in with nature. After all, a country house is just like any other house that you’d find anywhere else. Or so you would imagine.

Well, in my opinion, you’d be wrong on that count! Country homes are a sight for sore eyes for those people who live in a concrete hell. So, if you’re fortunate enough to live in the country savour the it.

With a home in the country decorating ideas should be coming into your head nineteen to the dozen and with only a little planning on your part, you can make your normal country house into a comfortable country retreat.

The only negative aspect I’ve noticed with this so far is the number of inspiration I receive from my environment. That might not sound like a bad thing, but believe me, there’s nothing worse than having country decorating ideas pouring into your mind with almost no let-up and not being able to put them all into practice.

However, when this flow starts, I just lie back and let it consume me. I’ve always found that there is no use fighting against the inevitable, although a little dreaming never did hurt anyone. If the ideas I’ve had are really good and they grip my attention, I write detailed notes about what I’d like to do.

So, no matter whether you want to alter your home into a country residence, or whether you just want to redecorate the home you already have with country decorating ideas, the inspiration should be easy to come across and just as easy to put into practice. A country home is the right place to be to relax from your stressful workday day.

If you are looking for more info on stylish country decorating ideas , then you really really must go along to our website for more free ideas on Stylish Home Decor and more. This article, Great Country Decorating Ideas is available for free reprint.

Remodeling Bathrooms

So, you have made up your mind to remodel your bathroom, you have some bathroom remodeling ideas and now and you are looking for that perfect bathroom design. You know the one you are looking for. It has to be just right for you and it has to last for years with grace. The colours must not clash, and you should be able to bear the sight of it day after day after you finish it for a long time to come.

The perfect bathroom design should incorporate every new bathroom gadget known to man and you should still have enough room to move around without hitting your head or your elbow on some protruding edge. Your perfect bathroom design should also pass the test of time, still looking as graceful as it did when you first remodelled it. Its not too much to ask really, only a mini miracle on the scale of turning water into wine.

All right, let’s be perfectly honest about it, they are the kind of bathroom remodeling ideas that everyone is looking for, but which no-one has yet found. Interior Design Ideas

Redecorating your house really isn’t that easy and it only becomes even less so when you are stumped for ideas. The only way to really get over this shortage of interior design ideas, is to sit down, put your feet up and have a cup of coffee.

I’m not kidding, there’s no better way of getting a new perspective on things than taking a break from what you are doing. In the first place, you become more relaxed, and in the second place a steaming cup of tea or coffee is always welcome.

Once that you’re resting comfortably and are suitably relaxed, close your eyes and picture the room that you want to redecorate. Even if you are redecorate more than one room, it’s always a good idea to start with one room first, working your way logically through to the next one and then the next one.

Before you begin your travel through the land of interior design ideas, get yourself a notebook and pencil so that you can jot down any good ideas you have before they are forgotten

So, just sit back and picture the room in your mind. Try and see it as you want it to look. And if that’s too hard, then first try to replace separate bits and pieces. This is always a good way to start. If you’ve still got a mental dearth of interior design ideas, then leaf through some interior design catalogues beforehand so that you have at least a working idea of what you can do to redecorate your room.

The interior design catalogues need not be anything more grand than your free local department store catalogue, turned to the home furnishing section. Then again, nowadays you also get specialist shops which deal solely with redecorating. If you have the time, a quick trip down to one of these might also help to end the lack of interior design ideas, and will possibly get you started again.

These stores will have decorated sets of several designs, giving you a good idea of what your room could look like if you buy those materials. However, if you’re going to one of those shops, expect to shell out some money as no matter how hard you try to keep a tight hand on your wallet, you’ll always find something you want to buy.

This is not necessarily a bad thing to do, but unless you watch out you could end up buying things you don’t need. And without a proper idea of what you want the room to look like, this can turn out disastrous. Not to worry though, if you keep your mental image in mind, you can go back home and get a start on redecorating your rooms the way you like.

Furthermore, now that you’ve managed to get at least some interior design ideas of what you want your rooms to look like, your whole redecorating project ought to be that much easier and that much more enjoyable.

Decorating Teen Rooms

Teen rooms are the bane of mothers everywhere. It’s not even like when they were younger. In those days, if their rooms were messy, you could shout at them and get them to clean it up, and, if that didn’t work, you could go in and do it. But when it comes to teens and their rooms you’re dealing with a whole different kettle of fish.

True, you could go and ask them to tidy up their rooms. And yes, you could shout at them a little if you wanted to, and go and clean the room yourself. However, that’s when all hell breaks loose. Teen rooms are sacred places and not to be entered into lightly.

Woe betide the person who dares to move even one inch of that mess on the carpet. It was there for a good reason and you had absolutely no right to move it. At least, that will be the argument of most teens, and you being the patient, caring mother that you are, will just roll your eyes and tell them that the whole pizza and day-old shirt thing just don’t go well together and you were just rescuing them from the anger of the walking pizza slice.

Your teens will in turn roll their eyes and scream, not to exaggerate, it wasn’t about to grow legs and walk off on its own, and if it was then wouldn’t that make a great science project. So, you keep cleaning and they keep putting things back. And so ends the story, and you’re right back at square one.

Naturally, one way you could deal with this catastrophe is to redecorate it. Teen rooms might be sanctities for them, but even they would like it if you gave their rooms a fantastic makeover.

That’s not to say that the room will be any cleaner once you’ve finished and they’ve moved back in, but at least you’ll get to see the inside of the room long enough to tide you over for the next couple of years. That is unless you’re thinking of redecorating their rooms every year.

But now you come to your next problem. Since teens are notoriously different when it comes to their rooms. You might find that your teen rooms are decorated quite differently from what you expected and what you would have done first of all. This is where a comprise should be struck, if your teen wants black for his room, then say you want another colour too that will offset the black.

Be prepared to compromise a little on your ideas no matter how silly their ideas are. After all, they’re only a teen once and they will look back with horror on what bad taste they had.

As a parent it is your duty to give them these moments in their lives which they can look back on with due horror, and ban their kids from doing the same to their own teen rooms.

Decorating Children’s Rooms

If you’re unhappy with the way your home looks, the best thing you can do is redecorate it. Not necessarily all at once of course, as this will lead to headache upon headache and is almost guaranteed to bring stress into your life when you really didn’t need it. However if you start one room at a time, your redecorating project will become that much easier and more manageable.

The next stage is to decide which room you want to decorated first. It’s not always an easy decision to make, but it must be done nevertheless. How about starting by decorating the kids’ rooms first as this will lead to a general mood of happiness in them and can even help you in the long term too.

Decorating kids rooms can be an enjoyable way to pass your time and also gives you the opportunity to bond with your kids as well. There’s no better way to get close to your kids than by getting down to their level and talking about the things that appeal to them. Decorating their rooms might be the perfect way to do that.

But where do you start? If you’ve more than one kid you need to be careful about whose room you’re going to decorate first, as things can get tense. Decorating kids rooms can be fraught with tension if you don’t handle it delicately, so I’ve found that the best way to deal with it is to toss a coin in the air and have the kids call out heads or tails.

This method might not work however if you’ve got more than two kids or more than two rooms to decorate. In which case I’d suggest you just wade in and begin the whole decorating process at once instead of tackling it room by room.

But at least you’re not doing the whole house and this way you promote happier feelings amongst the children with no-one feeling that they have been slighted by having their room decorated last. What tends to happen when you’re decorating the rooms with the kids’ help though is that more paint gets splashed everywhere but where it should be. But then that was part of the reason you opted to start decorating the kids rooms and perhaps even their play areas first, wasn’t it.

You’ll be much happier for at least starting on your decorating project and your kids will be happier for having their rooms redecorated too, not to mention the sheer pleasure you’ll be enjoying while you’re busy doing all this. Of course, This isn’t to say, that decorating kids rooms isn’t completely hassle or stress free.

On the contrary, you’ll probably get a shedload more stress by the time you’ve finished, but at least you’ll have had the satisfaction of getting closer to your children and seeing their rooms clean and tidy for at least one day before the kids move back into them again.

Kitchen Decorating

It’s a Saturday morning and you’re sitting there waiting for your coffee machine to stop its cycle, so you can have that vital early morning cup of coffee. Idly, you look around your kitchen and notice a spot of paint missing from the corner of the door. It had happened years ago but you never really took any notice of it before now.

You continue to allow your gaze to stray and your eye gets caught by a patch of mildew growing under the sink, then you notice the ugly brown colour your ceiling has turned just above where the cooker is.

The paint is slightly off colour, and the only papered wall is starting to look a bit old-fashioned and faded. You take a fortifying sip of your now-ready coffee and decide that a little bit of kitchen decorating is needed.

How do you go about it though? And how soon can you get into it? Now that you’ve finally noticed all the little bits and pieces of decay that you were quite successfully ignoring up until that moment, you can’t wait to get started on your little kitchen decorating project.

However, that is where the crunch comes. Just how small do you want to keep your kitchen decorating plans? Can you get away with just sloshing a fresh coat of paint on everything or will you need to go to the trouble of removing the wallpaper off the wall, and finding out what had caused that mildew stain.

Naturally enough, it all depends on you and your budget, but if you can spare the time, energy and money, you’ll probably do better, in the long run. to get rid of all your kitchen decorating problems at once. That would include stripping the wallpaper, replacing any carpeting or rugs that you might have, and perhaps even sanding down your wooden floors if you have those. If you’re going to do a complete job of kitchen decorating however then you’ll also need that all important final coat of fresh paint to brighten up your kitchen.

You may also want to consider replacing those tatty old curtains as they’re also probably looking distinctly old by now. So, go ahead and splash out on your kitchen decorating project and replace the curtains and while you’re about it, you should think of investing in a new set of tea towels as well. It won’t hurt to go all out while you can.

And when you’re finally done, you can sit back and enjoy your new kitchen and remember that weekend morning that started it all off. You’ll have no regrets whatsoever, since your kitchen decorating project has provided you with a better kitchen than you ever hoped for.

A feeling of contentment rushes through you as you bring your new coffee mug to your lips. Life just doesn’t get any better than when you’re enjoying the fruits of your efforts and labour.

Ideas For Interior Painting

Redecorating or renovating your house is never easy, and it gets especially harder and more tedious when you need to paint as well. Sloshing on one coat of paint after another can be draining if you’re going it alone and still have the whole house to consider.

And let’s not even start talking about the ceilings! But even if you do stick to the same old staid exterior paint job, it doesn’t need to be the same for the interior – you could always try some wild and wonderful interior painting ideas. If nothing else you’ll be guaranteed a reaction from all who enter your home.

By reducing the exterior painting plans to the necessary minimum, you can spend more time and creativity to the inside. You can let your imagination run wild with all those interior painting ideas you always wanted to implement but never got around to. And, as they say, there’s no time like the present, and be honest, when are you going to get round to redecorating your house again?

However, don’t be alarmed! When I’m talking about flamboyant interior painting ideas, I’m not saying that you should do something that resembles modern art paintings, no, I’m talking about something more along the lines of a paint job that reflects your personality.

So your interior painting ideas need not be anything bolder than a splash of vibrant colour on one wall, surrounded by soothing colours on the other walls. This works very well in any house and the vibrant colour that you pick out can be either soothing or primal, depending on what you want to reveal of yourself. You could, of course, always go to extremes and paint all the walls a bright vibrant shade or even mix and match different shades on different walls.

If you’re doing this, then you may want to think about the effect you’ll create and whether you can actually live with the colour scheme for very long. Crazy and inspired interior painting ideas are all very well and good, but you should always think about whether you’re going to be able to bear the sight of your newly panted walls or not after a month or so. If you are going to have to repaint everything again, it sort of defeats the purpose.

This doesn’t mean that you should restrict your creative urges or stifle your interior painting ideas. All it means is that some of your bolder ideas, should maybe be the subject of a small test-run somewhere else.

Don’t think of redecorating your home as something that you have to do. If you want to, you could always think of yourself as Michelangelo or Da Vinci or any of those great artists and paint a stunning mural. The only necessity is that you let your great interior painting ideas become reality and that you have loads of fun while you’re doing it.

Ideas for Wall Painting

So, here you are then, in your new house! Its a bit of a mess though because the previous owner was in a rush to sell and had been in the middle of redecorating. But, you don’t really mind that though, since it gives you the perfect opportunity to do your house up exactly the way you want it.

However, now you need to decide where everything goes and what colours will suit which rooms, but you don’t have any wall painting ideas.

So, you eagerly look through your new keys and wander through your new home. The minute you step in through a door ideas assail you. That huge vase you bought last year ago would look great in the corner, and you’re pretty sure that your existing sofa set will fit in this other room. And you know that an antique mirror table would look stunning in the hallway. The only thing you really get stuck on though are wall painting ideas.

You don’t want to just splash on a coat of neutral coloured paint and be done with it. What you want is a masterpiece, something that you can look on with pride every time you see it. Naturally, you should be able to keep looking at it with pleasure for some time to come as well, so it shouldn’t be too severe.

But where do you get good wall painting ideas from, and how can you go about getting the wall painting actually done? There are a few ways to go about this, the easiest of which being if you have an artistic flair, so that you could get your wall painting ideas out of your head, so to speak and paint the walls as you see fit. Unfortunately, most of us aren’t very artistic and we are loathe to pick up a brush or roller and apply the first coat of paint without supervision. In this scenario then, you will need some assistance.

You could begin by hiring a professional decorator to help you to decide which styles would look suit your home or you could sit down and watch some DIY TV programs, in which they show some pretty stylish ideas on what to do when re-decorating a house and will even give you some stylish wall painting ideas.

If neither of these options is viable for you though, you could just try going down to your local hardware shop with fabric swatches and colour sheets of your most prominent pieces of furniture and enlist their help on stylish wall decorating ideas.

You may come up with a hodge-podge of wall painting ideas with this last suggestion, but I found that it was the one that worked best for me and now I’m very proud of my ‘personalized’ house, because it reflects who I am just perfectly.

Interior Design Jobs

If you’re stuck in your job and want to go in for something different, then this might be exactly what you need in your life. Interior design jobs can be a fun and fruitful way for you to spend your time, and if you play your cards right, then there could be quite a lot for you to benefit from.

Before you run off and quit your present job however, I’d advise you to think about it very carefully. Remember that, although the market for interior design jobs is definitely there, most interior design jobs are for the self-employed and you will have to bid for each job, so if you do decide to get on the bandwagon, you might not actually get any jobs in the beginning.

Therefore, you should first make absolutely sure that interior designing is really what you want to do. And if it is, then make sure that you have saved enough money for you to be able to live comfortably until your new career gets off the ground.

If this doesn’t sound quite as interesting to you now as it did, you could always stay in your old job and continue with any interior design jobs that you might win at the same time until you feel confident enough to make a choice between the two. It’s probably a safe bet to assume that by that time, you would have made up your mind whether you wanted to continue looking for interior design jobs or not.

If you want, you also have the choice of attending an interior design college or taking some interior design courses to further your interior design knowledge. This is also a good way for you to test the water before you get in too deep. An added bonus with either of these options is that they can be accomplished with ease and shouldn’t present you with any problems.

Taking any of these courses will only enhance your innate ability and develop any talent you have in the area of interior designing. This in turn makes it simpler for you to tender for more interior design jobs by giving you a boost in confidence and knowledge, so that you’re more placed to face whatever comes along.

The most difficult part will be taking that all important first step of coming out your nice safe job to go out into the unknown world of bidding for interior design jobs. However, for the person who’s got the interior design bug, there’s no better way to satisfy their craving than by going for interior design jobs. Decorating Ideas for Inside the Home

The bleak winter is getting to you and you’re mooching around trying to decide what to do with yourself. You’re snowbound and the only thing that you can think of doing is sitting in front of your fire, drinking hot chocolate and staring broodingly out of the window. The only problem with that is that you’ve already been doing just that for days now and you’ve have had enough of fires, hot chocolate and mooching.

Now you’re just about ready to do something different, so, you turn to the only comfort you have and switch on the TV. You’re instantly enthralled as you come across one of those many shows about how you can do up your home. You find yourself flooded with decorating ideas, both interior decor and exterior decor ideas.

So, you finally find yourself entranced by a program that you would have dismissed earlier and jump out of your seat to fetch a pencil and notebook to note down all those fantastic ideas. In no time at all, you’ve run out of pages in your notebook and have to leave your warm armchair to go get another one.

And before you get back to your armchair, you’ve made a quick detour around your house and have spotted many of the things that you’ve spent years trying not to see – the cracks in the bedroom walls, the growing patch of mildew in the bathroom, the paint chipping off many of the skirtings.

The list is never ending and could go on for many pages. So you dutifully sit down, and alongside your notes on various decorating ideas on interior design and general refurbishing, you meticulously take down all the little things that need fixing, replacing or refitting.

The list fills even your second notebook but you decide to finish there, because it’s giving you writer’s cramp, and besides you already have all the relevant facts to hand, so now you have to set about sorting them into directions that you can easily carry out.

And that is not an easy job, when your decorating ideas, interior designs and room-by-room list of snags and flaws is all mixed up in one messy pile. So, you turn to the tried and tested, ancient solution of sitting in the middle of the floor surrounded by your notes in an attempt at finding some logical order for you to follow later.

When you eventually reach that sublime state of order, you lay back with a tired but satisfied countenance. The knowledge that you’ll now have enough decorating ideas and interior design plans and less spare time on your hands during those long hard months of winter, sends a rush of contentment flowing right through you. After all, there’s nothing like a job well done and the knowledge that next spring, your home will look nothing like its former shabby self.

South-Western Home Decor

So what exactly is southwestern home decor and how can you introduce it into your own home? Well, to start with southwestern home decor reflects the southwest and all its most famous traits. Southwestern home decor uses colourful throw rugs, gorgeous wall hangings, and if you look hard enough, you can even find great kitchen accessories as well.

If you’re thinking about bringing southwestern home decor into your home, first of all, you need to determine whether it will fit in with your existing decor or whether it will clash horribly. Almost all southwestern home decor involves bright, eye catching colours and stunning designs and motifs.

So, if your existing furniture would clash with any of these southwestern pieces, you can do one of two things. Firstly, you could always just throw out all your old furniture and replace them with fantastic pieces of southwestern home decor. Or you could just buy one or two pieces of the southwestern home decor range and match them carefully with your existing knick-knacks.

Personally speaking, I would rather replace everything I have since there’s some wear, but in reality that’s just not possible. For one thing it would just be too expensive, and for another I would rather not have to listen to a lecture from my mother about extravagance. I’ve found out that you can get away from from your friends but not from your mother!

Besides, I’m also a little relieved that I didn’t give into my first impulse and renovate all in a southwestern home decor style. Granted that it does look really nice, but sometimes I also like the peace and quiet that some of my other pieces of furniture bring about in me. Therefore, I have now come up with the ideal solution and have instead resorted to buying one-off pieces that catch my attention and sprinkling my home with those instead.

And I must admit that its made quite a difference to the appearance of my whole home. Lush and rich pieces of the more traditional furniture now rest quite comfortably with the more flamboyant and stunning designs of my southwestern home decor. I’ve even got hold of a great throw rug for my bathroom floor along with a beautiful set of bathing towels. My kitchen has a new set of southwestern motifs, and my foyer has the most amazing lampshade and statue in prominent view.

Although all of this might sound a bit much, I’ve found that this is the easiest way to bring the glories of southwestern home decor into your home, without going all out and replacing your whole house with southwestern decor and motifs.

After all, you only want to bring a splash of southwestern decor to your home, not the whole thing. Oh, and did I forget to mention the beautiful tapestry I bought the other day? It’s just perfect.

How to Use Lighting to Stunning Effect.

When you are considering the interior design of a dwelling or room, lighting is most likely the most important aspect of the changes to the interior decoration. After all, it is the element that generates the mood of the room. You can create moods from intimacy to austere clinicism just by the power of your light bulb or turning a dimmer switch.

However, if you want to be sure that the effect of the lighting is the one you are looking for, it is important that you be acquainted with the four main kinds of lighting.

Ambient illumination: This is the general lighting for the whole room. In nearly all rooms it is the usual light in the centre of the ceiling be it a fluorescent tube or an incandescent bulb. It is recommended that you use one or more dimmers in order to enjoy more flexibility in creating effects for every occasion.

Local lights: These lights are used to supplement or even temporarily take the place of the ambient illumination. Local lights are most commonly standard lamps, table and wall lights and are generally used in order to facilitate such activities as reading, cooking, and shaving. The concentration of the light is local and it has to be properly worked out so it won?t strain the eyes.

Accent lights Accent lights are sources of light for showing off decorative items, ordinarily placed so as to draw attention to an objet d?art . Quite literally to show it in its best light.

Natural light: This is the one we get free though skylights, windows and doors. This light is controllable for part of the day by shades, curtains, drapes, blinds or awnings, but obviously varies with the time of the day, the season and the weather. Some locations see huge variations in natural light according to the season, eg monsoon, snow, etc.

It is doubtless easiest, if you take a house room by room. Start by thinking about what the room is used for. Retirees will probably want to take advantage of the daytime natural light for hobbies and reading, whereas a working couple with school-age kids, will be more active in the evening, when additional illumination might be more imperative. Write down what you do and where you do it. Do you have a favourite armchair for reading the paper, do you read the paper during daylight hours or after work? Be courageous in your selection of lighting, but also keep in mind that illumination can have a strong influence on our perception of dimensions, making a room look larger or smaller than it is in reality.

There are lots of ways to light a room but they all come from one of two perspectives: the lighting is either practical or aesthetic. Yes, they are both used to allow you to see more effortlessly, but highlighting the pages of a book or a shaving mirror is not quite the same as using a low light to highlight a statue of the Madonna in an alcove.

In a brief summary, you could use the few lines below to give you preliminary ideas when you are thinking about changing a room?s lighting:

i] Place a standard lamp behind armchairs: they ought to be between three and five feet high. ii] Use an accent light to high or even low light a work of art. iii] Use an accent light to underline the contours of bookshelves. iv] The ambient light ought to be adjustable. v] Use local illumination to swathe the walls with a low light or glow (can be sunk into the floor)

Landscape Lighting

Whilst having a great garden is important you ought to think about means of allowing the beauty of your garden to show through in different sorts of weather conditions. Some people also like to have the option of having their garden illuminated at night. For these people, looking at various landscape lighting options will permit you the chance of having your garden looking just the way you want it, no matter what the natural lighting conditions are.

In order to provide the right landscape lighting conditions you will have to choose from a variety of lighting fixtures. These fixtures can be in the form of lamps, lanterns, spotlights, halogen lights and even solar lights. The price of these lighting fixtures varies for each type of light.

If you are thinking of using landscape lighting you will have to choose where to put the lighting in order to get the best lighting effects. You may also want to consider which lights will provide your garden with an all over lighting. You can look in landscaping magazines to obtain an idea of the various ways that landscape lighting fittings can be utilized.

While it is possible to find ideas for placing landscape lighting in your garden from landscape magazines there is another way too. For this method, you have to look at your garden in the daytime and in the night time. In the morning you will need to look what places in your garden would be enhanced by the use of landscape lighting. When night falls look out at your garden again and see what areas would benefit from the use of lights.

Then, the morning after this nocturnal inspection, you should go out into the garden and mark out roughly where you feel there is a requirement for lighting. Once you have inspected this area properly, try imagining what kind of lights will be useful. You can then go to the garden store to look for these lights, once you have chosen the type of landscape lighting.

After you have bought your perfect lights and you have looked at the instructions on setting them up you will need to start fixing the landscape lighting in a way that will make sure that your garden looks beautiful. Coloured lighting is worth considering too.

After you have finished your trials and installed the final version, you will see what a difference having the right landscape lighting can make to your garden. From now on, when night falls you will still be able to appreciate just how beautiful garden is.

Comfortable Church Chairs And Banquet Chairs

Everyone knows that the church is a place of worship. However, there is no reason for its parishioners and all people who attend mass and church occasions to be uncomfortable when they pray. Every church should have a comfortable chair above anything else so that people are at ease whenever they attend mass or any church occasion. After all, praying in a church should not be a discomfort.

Chairs are vital in every church mainly because it is probably the only furnishing a church has. Of course, there may be times that a church may use a table or two but it will not be used as much as chairs are used. This is where people listen to sermons and strengthen their faith. Besides, it is quite hard to hear one out if you are tired standing.

These old seats should already be replaced because some might cause unwanted injuries for church goers. Furthermore, most of these old chairs as you may know or have seen are all made of hard wood which makes them really uncomfortable to sit on especially because mass or church celebrations tend to be very lengthy.

Living Room Decorating Ideas In Black And White

When people think about stylish home decor and making changes to their residence, whether it be one or two rooms or the entire house, the first thing that usually springs to mind is colour. Generally people choose colours they are fond of or those which correspond with pieces of their existing furniture. When looking for inspiration for stylish home decor, one idea which is perhaps too often overlooked is decorating with the two basic colours (or shades, to be more accurate) ” black and white.

Black and white, when used in decorating demonstrates style and creates drama. Top interior designers say that every room in the house could benefit by adding a slash of black. Black is a colour which anchors and grounds a room. Adding sophistication, black is definitely a colour that requires attention. Living room decorating ideas for a home using black can include accessories such as light fixtures, trim or furniture. Black serves to bring definition to the focal points in a room. Black is just one of the colours that makes a statement, but it is definitely one of the most eye-catching!

Using black and white shades in your stylish home decor, lends a clean, fresh, elegant touch to the atmosphere of the room. This combination can be added to any room in a home making it a sophisticated space. Black and white are often used in contemporary home decorating and often used to accent other colors in French Country design. It may be hard to visualize but there are many ideas for decorating a home using combinations of only these two basic shades.

The floor is a great place to start when you’re having living room decorating ideas. Black and white vinyl tiles laid alternately make a beautiful chessboard pattern and gives a clean and elegant appearance. Black marble used on the floor, accented by wide white baseboards is another beautiful idea for decorating a room. Laying white ceramic tiles with a black border or simply painting the floor black or white and using pattern stencils of the opposite colour for decoration is also really stunning. These all are great ideas for re-vamping a room.

Is there anything more perfect than white walls? Painting the walls white or even an off-white would make a perfect background for accessories such as artwork framed in black. Imagine that – stylish home decor! Elegant black window treatments or black shutters against a clean, crisp white wall would definitely create an air of sophistication. Perhaps a glass-topped table with black iron rim and black chairs? These are terrific ideas for decorating a home using only black and white.

Imagine a bedroom decorated using only black and white – that would be beautiful stylish home decor too. A black or white iron bed-stead, covered with a striped black and white blanket or eiderdown. The pillow cases could be either all black or all white and you could add throw cushions in the other colour.

A nice leather black or white armchair in the corner would definitely accent the living room decorating ideas. Then you could have the white walls with a sophisticated piece of artwork, framed in black, hanging on it. That would surely add to the modern feel of your living room decorating ideas. Black furniture against the stark white walls would look really neat and tidy and you could jazz it all up with accessories like pewter or silver candlesticks, jugs or vases.

However, if you think that the living room decorating ideas need a bit more colour to complete the effect, maybe a throw or a cushion in a bold colour like red or gold on the chair in the corner of the room would be enough to accent the room. There are innumerable ways to decorate a home, however, discovering the one that suits you and those who live with you is really very important. It’s nice to do something extreme and unusual, but please remember that you must be able to live with what you have created for quite sometime.

Stylish Country Home Decor

Your house is finally spick and span and you sit down and put your feet up for a minute with a nice cup of coffee by the side of you and you pick away at your muffin. You are worn out but it’s that good kind of weariness when you know you’ve done a good day’s work and you have no regrets about it. A feeling of contentment settles on you and you look around you with satisfaction.

A magazine lies in front of you tantalizingly within reach and you give in and pull it to you, intent on enjoying a well-earned rest. The top cover story springs out at you, entitled ‘Country Home Decor’. Naturally you flip through eagerly to that very section, you had only just seen an article on some stylish country home decor or converting your house into a small country haven in another magazine and it had interested you.

There are pages and pages of the magazine filled with what can only be categorized as the most ideal examples of country home decor imaginable. You gaze longingly at the various styles and furnishings you see gracing the magazine’s pages. A quick glance up from your magazine reassures you that your own modest abode hasn’t changed somehow instantly into one of those lovely country homes you were just admiring.

A heavy sigh passes your lips at the realization and so you go back to reading the magazine article. You had never thought that you were the sort of person who could live with the country home decor style but now upon reflection you think you just might be able to.

Now without your even realising it, you begin marking the pages that fascinate you the most, making small mental calculations on how best to achieve the same effect but on the more modest budget that you have to spend. After all, it just wouldn’t do to fork out for that lovely Welsh dresser and have to go without your freshly ground whole bean coffee, would it?

But, you could definitely buy that beautiful table runner without too much of a problem. And if you donated all those modern chrome coffee mugs and dinner sets to charity you wouldn’t really be splurging, would you, since you would have already done your best for charity and given them all these things?

What about exchanging your snazzy blinds for something that’s a bit more in the country home decor style, and while you’re at it perhaps you could even exchange that ugly lampshade you got as a house-warming gift for something a little more country.

The only thing that is left for you to do now is to lie back and enjoy the results of your work and gaze with beaming pride upon your newly redecorated home. Furnished, naturally enough, in the best country home decor style that you could gain from every source that you found, like that first magazine article that spurred it all off way back when.

Decorating Your Bathroom And Kitchen

For people who seem to have it all or for the people who are bored with their lifestyle, there are a few things that they can do to spruce-up their lives. Perhaps one of the best ways though is to begin redecorating one’s house. Some of the first places you should consider redecorating are your bathroom and kitchen.

These are usually the most overlooked and yet, most used rooms in the entire house. Think about it, have you redecorated at least even one of these rooms within the past few years? The answer is probably “no”, in which case think back to the last time you even looked closely at your bathroom or kitchen other than to Spring clean them.

Probably, if you noticed anything at all, you put the notion off until a future date when you would be able to devote more time to refurbishing your bathroom or kitchen, although at that time, the place certainly didn’t look as bad as it does now, after all, the years soon mount up and even though you’ve been keeping it rigorously clean you can’t stop the steady progress of time.

It is probably true that if you took a closer inspection now, you’d find that the drapes are looking a might drab and ragged around the edges, as are the bathroom rugs. And do not even look at the toilet roll holder. It is quite true that they don’t make things like they used to, and with very good reason too!

So, you should do yourself a favour and throw out all that unused clutter in the bathroom and get yourself some new stuff – you will be surprised at what beautiful things you can find these days. Anyway, you’ve probably been eyeing that lovely new bathroom set you noticed in the mall for some time, so at the very least now you will have a good reason to go out and splash out on yourself.

And while you’re about it, don’t forget to buy that lovely new spice rack you saw last week for the kitchen and a few mats that can be used in either room. They should be resilient to such commonplace occurrences as water, soap, oil grease, fat and all the other things that somehow seem to become ground into carpets.

However, if you’re looking for some new ideas on decorating your bathroom or your kitchen, there are a number of resources you can get your inspiration from. The best one I’ve found so far are the catalogues, which you can peruse to your heart’s content.

With all these options, you could even swap something that is a bit cheaper for the items you want in the catalogues. This is the best method to get your decorating projects started and to keep yourself pleasantly busy for some while and to transform your long suffering bathroom and kitchen into brand new, glitzy areas.

Interior Design Colleges

Have you got an aptitude for interior design? Are you always rearranging your room, or telling your friends and family where to put that piece of pottery they bought yesterday? Then, the best place you could be to develop your skills is one of the many interior design colleges or design schools that are around these days.

With a little help and a little mild prodding from your friends and family, you could find yourself well on your way to founding your own interior designing business. Then you’d be in the place that everyone wants to be: doing a job that they really love doing. So, what are interior design colleges and what can you expect them to do for you?

Well, to start with, the number of interior design colleges that you will encounter in your search will be great and, at times, even overwhelming. If you make a search on the Internet or even just ring up the colleges and ask for a catalogue of courses, you can then take an well-informed decision about which of the interior design colleges you choose to study at.

If your life is too hectic these days, but you still want to try a course or two, you have the choice of going for any of the Internet interior design colleges that are so numerous these days. Or maybe you could even try a night course or correspondence course in your pursuit of knowledge about interior design.

All of these interior design colleges teach basically the same things and will develop your own natural abilities. You’ll learn everything from the basics up and will be given an insight into why certain colours match well next to each other and why other colours don’t.

You’ll learn when to apply the rules that you’ve been given and when to break them. But above all, you’ll learn how to use your natural design abilities with the knowledge that you’ve garnered at the college and blend it into a mixture that is vastly pleasing to the eye.

Moreover, if interior design colleges are what you want, then you can be guaranteed of coming away with a lot more than only the knowledge of how to place which colour next to which colour to get a stunning effect. By taking at least one or two courses, or even by doing the whole range of courses offered to you, you’ll be multiplying your natural interior design abilities at least a hundred times.

There’s nothing like having a confidence boost to stave up your own natural skills and to be able to tell someone with total confidence that you are a bona fide interior designer.

Wedding Decorating Ideas

Yes! Yes, yes, and yes a thousand times more. That was the answer you gave two weeks ago when your boyfriend took you out to dinner and proposed. There was no hesitation in your mind then and there really isn’t any now. The only thing that you’re hung up on though is the actual details of the wedding.

Your boyfriend, now your fiance of course, is very laid back and casual about it and said that anything you want was OK with him. He was certain that you would do a smashing job, just tell him if you wanted anything.

That’s all good and fine, and usually you would have relished the opportunity, in fact you did jump at the chance. But now you’re stuck on what to do for your wedding decorating ideas. The motifs are all blending as one into your brain and you still don’t know where to have the reception.

Of course, you could have the reception in an up market hotel with the works, everything catered for and all the niggily little details taken care of, but that seemed so impersonal, and you really want your wedding to be one that you, and everyone else, will remember for the rest of your life. So what can you do now?

Well, first off, just take a few really deep breaths and relax. Getting yourself worked up into a frenzy won’t help. Next call your bridesmaids, and anyone else you trust, together and have a council of war.

This is where you will hammer out the details and get a fresh perspective and new ideas on your planning, and where most of all, you can have some fun with your wedding decorating ideas. You’d be just amazed at how many great ideas a group of people can get if they’re working on something like wedding decorating ideas with wedding cards being only the least of it.

So you start with an idea, perhaps to have the all of the cards handmade so that they become even more special to you as time goes by. Someone else has the great notion of providing a bunch of those little disposable cameras so that those who wanted to, would be able to take same photos, and you’d end up with a great many more unrehearsed pictures than you otherwise would have had.

Yet another person comes up with a great overall design theme. Your wedding decorating ideas are now flowing fast and furious as one person after another chimes in giving you all the assistance you need to sort out your wedding plans.

Your mother however, comes up with the best wedding decorating ideas of all and such like being the least of all her concerns! Perhaps you’d like to get married and then have your reception at their house.

They could put up a large tent to take care of all the guests, and the house could be decorating to suit the occasion. And you say, ‘Yes’, again because there’s nothing you want more than to be married at home.

Plastic Shower Curtains

There was a time when fabric shower curtains went the way of the dinosaur and glass shower doors were all the rage. Like most fads, however, common sense took charge and the fashions of yesteryear have come back around full circle. You’ll now find that fabric shower curtains are all the rage once again and are readily available for purchase at most stylish home decor stores.

However, don’t rush to get rid of your old glass doors just yet. The cleanliness and smart look of the glass doors seem to be firmly established with some people. Adherents of glass doors will swear by them and will even sometimes be ready to lay down their reputations for them.

You’ll find, when discussing fabric shower curtains, that people are laid back and will smile when asked about their preferences. Naturally, they’ll stick by their fabric shower curtains but they also admit to seeing the advantages of glass doors as well. No dripping from the bottom of the curtain as you take a shower, no constantly damp curtain folds that need to be separated out each morning in order to dry and air out.

Best of all is the easy cleaning granted by glass doors. However, as the fans of fabric shower curtains will also tell you, glass doors have their downsides as well, the biggest of which being that if you let the cleaning of the doors slide for even one week, stains will begin to form along the sides where they’re attached to the wall and some of these prove to have a stronger will than you do.

And if you don’t give the glass shower doors a regular cleaning, your otherwise nice clean bathroom will begin to look rather grubby. The reason though why fabric shower curtains are an all time favourite of many people in the know, is for just one reason and one reason only. This is also what leads these people to have a smug grin on their faces even after they’ve just spent the last half hour sponging their bathroom. Fabric shower curtains are disposable and so can be changed quickly.

Yes, that’s the one whopping big reason why fabric shower curtains are still a firm favourite with loads of people. Have you ever tried changing your glass doors on a regular basis? It just won’t happen and its doubtful if it will ever happen within three years, unless that is you take a hammer to it.

So, now you know the reason for that mysterious smile and why fabric shower curtains never really went out of fashion. Convenience, more convenience and still more convenience. So if you’re considering of changing from your glass shower doors to the more convenient, disposable fabric shower curtains don’t be put off by having to get started

Once you remove those doors, your life is bound to become simpler, and if it’s not, just swap one set of fabric shower curtains for another. If nothing else it’ll make you feel more cheerful!

Home Decor On The Cheap

If you’re redecorating your home, naturally you’ll want only the best. However, often you’ll find that the best comes with an expensive price tag attached to it as well. Unfortunately, many of us can’t afford to splash out on the finer things in life, especially if we’re redecorating our homes.

That’s when the many discount home decor stores will come to your assistance. In these stores you’ll find that sometimes, small miracles can happen and that you’re actually getting those finer things in life at a fantastic discount price.

Some of the best discount home decor can be found at your local department stores. That’s probably the last place you’d think to look for discounts but if you get the timing right, seasonal sales will drive the prices down to match discount store prices. Nothing gets better than that, especially if you don’t really want to spend hours going around searching for discount stores or warehouses.

Which leads us, naturally enough, to the next discount home decor shops – discount warehouses, in which you are presented with a large selection from which you can buy your discount home decor and fittings. These large warehouse stores are ideal if you’re happy spending the time doing a bit of browsing.

Be advised though, that if you buy from these discount warehouses, you’re just as likely to see your perfect wall-hanging in your neighbors house as well. You should also go prepared to keep a tight grasp on your wallet as some of the items will simply call out to you and never let you go. In this case, you’ll find your new discount home decor items have multiplied substantially more in number than what you originally went in the warehouse to buy.

Another good method, and one which I constantly use, is the Internet discount stores. Just type in the words “Discount Home Decor” into any Internet search engine and it will produce such a magnitude of stores that you may even become inundated.

The best way to deal with this is simply to search through a small number of the returned results and find a store that you like. As you go along, you can always cull many of them and find ones that best suit your needs.

The Internet option is also good, if you decide to look through your local department store’s Internet website as well. Often, you’ll find a variety of items at discount store prices that you wouldn’t see at the store itself.

Delivery of your discount home decor items bought over the Internet is also very low and sometimes even free, if you spend over a certain amount of money.

Any or all of these options is a great way to start redecorating your home. And you’ll find that with a little effort and forethought on your part, you can find discount home decor that will not only suit your budget but which will also look great in your home. And ultimately that’s all that really matters.

If you are searching for modern ideas on Stylish Home Decor, then you really must go along to our website for more free ideas on Discount Home Decor and more. This article, Home Decor On The Cheap is available for free reprint.

Office Decorating

It’s been more than a year now since you came to your new work place and officially took over your new office. At first, you were busy coping with your new home and learning a new job, but now that you’re settled in you start noticing again the same things that you noticed when you first arrived.

The walls are a boring, drab colour and looking decidedly depressing, the sun streaming in through the heavy duty blinds is decidedly dingy and the furniture is just about as grotty and plain as it can get. You reckon that an acceptable amount of time has passed for you to start an office decorating project.

Naturally, before you start it’s always a good idea to make certain that the powers that be won’t have any objections to your redecoration plans. And remember that it is just an office and so you should treat your decorating plans as such.

Emulsioning the walls a bright red colour possibly might not work. However, you could brighten things up a bit by repainting the walls a bright and airy colour that won’t upset anyone, least of all you. Then you could always remove those old blinds that have been hanging there since the early 1980′s and replace them with something more pleasing and modern.

On the other hand, if the whole of the office is decorated in the same style with the same blinds hanging on each window, your stylish changes might not go down too well with your co-workers. So, think twice before making drastic changes that alter the whole style and dynamic of the entire office.

There are, however, simpler ways you can carry out your office decorating project without too much hassle on your part and which doesn’t necessarily need to be thought over too much. You can brighten up any room by placing a pot or two of flowering plants here and there around your office.

However, if you’re like me and you don’t have green fingers or if you enforce suicide on any plants near you, then maybe you shouldn’t bother with plants. You could however bring in some bright pictures and hang them up on your walls. Or perhaps you have kids and they have painted some smashing pictures for you.

These work well too, and will show your co-workers a different aspect of your character. But, don’t get stressed out over anything though – you really don’t need a simple decorating job to add to the rest of your worries. Besides, an office decorating project should be fun and stress free.

Remember, your office decorating project should not involve your upsetting the whole office, or yourself. It should be something that you can live with on a daily basis.

After all, you work in your office for most of the day, so it ought to be a place where you can be just as relaxed as you are in your own home.

Ideas on Home Decorating

If you’re interested in renovating or redecorating your home, you’ll need some great home decorating ideas. These aren’t all that hard to come by and if you’re an artistic person with an eye for what looks good, then you shouldn’t have any problem getting great home decorating ideas for yourself. However, most people are probably more like me and don’t have a clue where to start and what to change in order to make their homes a nicer place to live.

The first time I started a home decorating project, I had no idea at all and didn’t know what to tackle first. Should I strip the wallpaper first or take out the carpet? Should I fit that new double-glazed door or should I buy a sanding machine to clean off all those wooden bits around the room. The list, as you may have guessed, is endless and I could go on but in the interests of time, I’ll leave the rest up to your imagination.

Home decorating ideas are all well and good, but if you’re looking to do major renovation work, then you should probably call in professional renovators – people who can handle the job properly for you. If you’re doing this, then make sure that the renovators you go with are willing to adhere to the home decorating ideas that you give them, and won’t go off on a tangent of their own.

Alternately, you can just choose to overlook that ugly wallpaper that’s been surrounding you for some time now, but carry on with some of the lesser items on your list of home decorating ideas. This will have a double benefit for you.

The first one is that you’ll have full control over the situation and you’ll be able to oversee every step in detail if you wish. The second benefit is that by starting off small, you can decide if you actually want to continue renovating your home and progress to the more ambitious home decorating ideas that you have on your list.

Whichever method you go with, you should first be aware that once you start to renovate your home, money will pour out of your pockets like water and won’t stop until you actually put the last nail into the wall and hang the last picture up. So, if you’re going into this whole renovation process, then be prepared to find yourself cash-strapped until you finish.

So, although home decorating ideas are a great way to jazz up your home, keep a tight grip on your wallet and keep an even tighter one on yourself, as you’ll want to use any and every good idea you come across if you think will look great in your home.

Once you get started you’ll be virtually unstoppable – a force to be reckoned with and your home will look just the way you’ve been imagining it ever since you bought it.
