<p>The most commonly recommended method of overcoming obstructive apnea is weight loss, but as this is not simple for most overweight people, the most common treatment is CPAP, which means the wearing of an oxygen mask.</p>
<p>The problem with sleep apnea is that the shortage of breath means that the blood and the brain are starved of oxygen. When the level of oxygen in the brain drops to a certain level, it wakes the body up to do something about it. However, the heart normally beats more slowly at night, giving it a rest, but as the oxygen level in the blood drops, the heart will pump harder to send more blood and oxygen to the areas it is most needed.</p>
<p>Another effect is that people suffer from fatigue during the day, which leads to falling asleep at the wheel and accidents at work. In fact, sufferers of apnea are three times more probable to have an accident than normal.</p>
<p>Sufferers of apnea hardly ever wake up when their brain gets them breathing again, but it can be very distressing for their partners. My wife thought that I had passed away when she first became aware of my difficulty with obstructive sleep apnea and the spluttering back to a state of breathing resembles a drowning man coming up for the second time.</p>

Approximately 4% of Caucasian males and 2% of Caucasian females suffer from sleep apnea. A surprising statistic is that the same percentage of Chinese men and women suffer from apnea as Caucasians. This is startling because the Chinese are not normally as overweight as Caucasians.</p>
<p>The terms &#8216;apnea&#8217; and &#8216;apnoea&#8217; mean the same; the former being the American spelling and the latter being the English spelling.</p>

<p>Deprivation of sleep might sound like bad luck or something that can be caught up on the next day, but in actual fact it goes far deeper than that. Those who have not had a decent night&#8217;s sleep find it hard to concentrate and might even nod off. This is naturally not a sensible idea if you are a driver.</p>

<p>Individuals find that changing their sleeping position assists with their snoring. The worst position for snoring is lying on your back. Lying on your side is a good way of decreasing snoring as can lying on your front.</p>
<p>The thing to keep in mind is the weight of your skin and flesh weighing down on your windpipe, especially on your throat. There is also the problem of your tongue and palate falling into the back of your throat and either vibrating or blocking the passage &#8211; lying on your side or front stops this happening.</p>

<p>The fact is that warts are non-malignant growths. Non-malignant cancers, if you like, but the operative word is &#8216;non-malignant&#8217; which is the same as &#8216;harmless&#8217;.</p>
<p>If you want to remove any warts that you have, it is not a problem. Perhaps, it is easier to see warts as flowers or rather weeds growing on your skin. You can kill them. There are a number of ways of doing this &#8216;weed killing&#8217;.</p>
<p>You can go to a doctor or a dermatologist. This is a sure-fire way of getting rid them, but depending on where you live can be costly. Or you can attempt doing it yourself first. After all, if you do not succeed, it will not have cost you much and you can then go to a doctor later.</p>
<p>One of the easiest methods that I have found is the use of Salicylic acid. It sounds awfully dangerous and painful, but I can assure you that it is not. Salicylic acid is an ingredient of numerous shop-bought home remedies for getting rid of warts. Simply check on the labels of wart removal products.</p>
<p>A couple of moments after applying salisylic acid, the top of the wart will turn white. After a few days of application, the wart will look like an open cauliflower and it will reveal itself as the weed that it is. (Not really, of course). Soon thereafter, it will start to break away &#8211; literally to fall offpiece by piece &#8211; and there will be no scar at all.</p>
<p>I had loads of warts as a child. Mostly on my fingers alongside my finger nails and although my mother wanted to take me to the general practitioner to have them &#8216;burned&#8217; off by frost, I did not like the notion. Salicylic acid was suggested by a neighbour and there was no looking back.</p>
<p>However, as a foot note, I would like to add one more home remedy. A couple of years after the trauma of having loads of warts on my hands as an infant schoolboy, I grew a wart on the tip of my nose. <p>An aunty of mine, Aunty Lil, came to the house one day to &#8216;get rid of this problem once and for all&#8217;. She took a chunk of beef steak out of her bag &#8211; it was around two ounces in weight &#8211; and she rubbed it on my nose, or on the wart on my nose anyway and then she went out into the garden.</p>
<p>My mother and I watched her through the widow. She carefully dug a shallow hole and laid the steak in it. Then she covered it over, tramped it down and returned inside.</p>
<p>&#8216;When the meat has rotted,&#8217; she said, &#8216;your wart will fall off&#8217;. Five or six days later, my wart fell off when I was washing and it has never reappeared &#8211; not in fifty years.</p>

It is simply an account of what I have witnessed and experienced myself over the course of my life so far, although at 55 years old, I am nearer the end of it than the beginning. It is my guidance on dealing with an international or inter-racial relationship.</p>
<p>It all began at an early age when I was in infant school at seven. There was a Filipina girl in our class and I could not take my eyes off her, although I almost certainly did not know much about it then. We parted at eight when they moved closer to another school and I never saw her again.</p>
<p>My next encounter with a foreign girl, was the mademoiselle assistant teacher at school and I was convinced that I would marry a French country girl when I grew up. That passed when the German helper arrived.</p>
<p>When I was fourteen, I went on a school cruise to Leningrad and there was a party of exchange students going home to Sweden on the same ship. I went out with one of them for roughly a week and first realized the problems that can come from international dating. There was a minor language barrier, but it was fun getting over that. The real difficulty came, because I had predetermined ideas of what Swedish girls were like, probably instilled in me after years of silly &#8216;Carry On&#8217; films.</p>
<p>At sixteen, I went to Germany to work for the summer and I found it very easy to get on with the German girls, although they were shyer that I was expecting too. Also an outlook I owed to silly Health and Efficiency &#8216;sex films&#8217;.</p>
<p>After finishing university, I moved to The Netherlands to live. It was the seventies and Dutch girls were great. However, I made friends with male British colleagues first and soon saw some of the issues that can come from an international relationship. Most of the men I knew were typical Brits and made totally no attempt to learn Dutch at all. Surprisingly, many Dutch people could not speak English either, particularly the parents.</p>
<p>This lead to a surprising quantity of tense moments in a week and that put a lot of strain on my friends&#8217; relationships. It is so easy to start name-calling when you are angry and it is the worst thing you can do. The Dutch girlfriend or her parents or friends would be called &#8216;a stupid cheese eater&#8217; or something just as daft and the relationship was over or in trouble for days. I do not recall what the Dutch called us.</p>
<p>I vowed to myself there and then never to get serious about a foreign girl because the arguments were just too much. Food was never a problem. Culture was not much of a problem, although where I was in southern Netherlands, most people were Catholic and I am not. This did perplex some parents but not me. Travelling was always going to be the drawback. Do you live by her parents or yours? Especially when children start arriving. Most countries have stronger family ties than Britain.</p>
<p>Then, at 50, having never been married, I went to Thailand, where I met my wife-to-be. Asian culture is very different from British or even European society and it is a real shock to both parties. Anyway, five years into our relationship and we are still fine. I recollect the reasons I gave myself for not marrying abroad when in The Netherlands and I was incorrect, but not much.</p>
<p>If you are going to enter into an international or even inter-racial relationship, you had better learn how to control your anger. It is the most important advice you will ever get. Being understanding of other points of view is important too, but not getting angry is more important. Furthermore, you must try to learn something about your partner&#8217;s land, background and language, otherwise you cannot join in any discussion your partner may have with someone who does know a bit about it.</p>
<p>I have never seen religion be a problem ever, except in an argument. My wife is Buddhist and I am not. We talk about it, but there is never any stress. Food, again I have never seen a problem in this field. Clothing, again no problem in my life. If you get into an international or inter-racial relationship, keep your temper, do not shout, do not get angry and talk things out calmly.</p>

<p>If you have a child that is well outside the normal weight range for his or her age, you are the one who must take the necessary steps to make certain that they shed those excess pounds in order to live a life that is as close to normal as possible. The first thing you have to do however is consult your child&#8217;s physician about the best possible course of action to look after the health of your child.</p>
<p>Put quite bluntly however, if you do not make the effort to assist your child to shed those pounds you are placing the health of your child at risk. We do not let our kids play in the street, we do not let them run around with guns, why on Earth would we permit them to commit suicide by chocolate? If you have a child that is overweight, the following advice should help you and them with their dieting.</p>
<p>First of all, do not make food a penalty or a reward. Food is part of the difficulty with your children and you should not use it against them. Instead, introduce them to healthy alternatives. Do not keep junk food in the house and do not let them buy lunch at school. Pack their lunches for school so that you know what they are getting. If you do not give them junk food to take away and they cannot have it when at home, they will be better off.</p>
